Series consists of Iris Garland’s correspondence with colleagues, professional contacts, and former students. It also includes some correspondence from dance performance audience members, as well as a few personal letters interspersed with professional correspondence. Series includes incoming letters and some copies of outgoing letters reflecting Garland’s day-to-day teaching duties and employment, involvement on committees, and accolades for performances mounted by the SFU dance program and her professional employment in general. Records primarily consist of correspondence, but also include some copies of dance performance reviews.

Sub-series consists of records documenting courses and workshops proposed, developed, or taught by Iris Garland individually or in partnership with others primarily at SFU, but also at other venues. Sub-series also includes material pertaining to the “University of the Air” project, a recorded educational series designed to explore the evolution of contemporary dance in the context of other contemporary art forms. Records include lecture notes, lesson plans, course syllabi and outlines, reading lists, exams, assignments, background literature, copies of articles, notes, proposals, and other materials.
