History
Smaro Kamboureli is a professor at the University of Toronto specializing in contemporary Canadian literature and criticism; she taught one of her first creative writing workshops at the Women and Words conference in Vancouver in 1983. Kamboureli has been on the board of NeWest Press in Edmonton since 1981, and edited the series Writer as Critic that has published such Canadian authors as George Bowering, Frank Davey, Roy Miki, Erin Mouré, Fred Wah and Phyllis Webb. She has edited or authored several books of criticism, including Making a Difference: Canadian Multicultural Literature. She came to Canada at the age of 21 from Greece.
