Stanton Atkins & Dosil Publishers, also known as SA&D or SAD, was established in 2002 to focus on producing illustrated and detailed books that celebrate the history and people of Canada.
The founding members include: Mark Stanton, former publisher and co-founder of Raincoast Books; Don Atkins, with 50 years experience in the printing business; and Roberto Dosil, a graphic designer and retired Senior Lecturer in the Master of Publishing program at the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing, Simon Fraser University
Don Atkins passed away in 2010. Mark Stanton and Roberto Dosil continue to design and develop titles for the organization.
Custodial history
The first accession was acquired from Mark Stanton and Roberto Dosil in 2016. A second accession of records was acquired from Roberto Dosil in 2018; this is noted in the Immediate Source of Acquisition note for the relevant files.
Scope and content
This fonds contains textual and photographic materials relating to the development, publishing and sales of 6 titles commissioned and produced by SA&D, as well as records relating to the general operations of the business. Each series consists of materials related to one book, with assigned sub-series falling into standardized operational categories such as drafts, project development, post-production and research. The contents of each series are comprised of a wide range of primarily textual material such as correspondence, pamphlets, draft layouts, invoices, writing drafts and notes, photocopies, newspaper and magazine articles, and photographic material.
The series contained in this fonds are as follows: Series 1: “I Stand for Canada” – Rick Archbold (1998-2009); Series 2: “A Flag for Canada” – Rick Archbold (2002-2015); Series 3: "A Road for Canada" - Daniel Francis (2003-2011); Series 4: "Selling Canada" - Daniel Francis (2003-2013); Series 5: "Waterfront" - James Delgado (2004-2010); Series 6: "The Wild Ride" - Charles Wilkins (2008-2012); and Series 7: SA&D Publishing general operations (2002-2012).

Material was received separated into boxes and organized by the title of the book it was associated with. This order was primarily maintained by the archivist, except where an item contained information relevant to multiple titles. Those items were combined with other material to form the “SA&D Publishing general operations” series. Because records within their respective boxes were not well-organized or grouped, within each series a standardized set of sub-series was used to impose a form of order. Most file-level titles were assigned by the archivist based on the contents of the file, these titles are indicated by the presence of square brackets.
