    Availability of other formats

The Archives is in the process (as of January 2023) of digitizing its audio and audio-visual holdings. Some items may have been digitized but not yet fully processed (ingested to the digital preservation system with preservation and access copies generated). Consult the reference archivist for more information.

    Restrictions on access

All files and items are open with no access restrictions.

Terms governing use, reproduction, and publication

Recordings are protected by copyright, and copyright ownership is mixed, with both SFU-owned and third-party copyrights.

For the audio recordings (sub-series 1), SFU was the maker of the recordings and owned a copyright in the materials (some copyrights may have expired). But copyright in the content of Convocation addresses belongs to the speaker, not SFU, and duration will be based on life of creator + 70 years.

For the video recordings (sub-series 2 and 3, copyright ownership in the recordings themselves is more uncertain. In the 1980s and 1990s, SFU contracted with Best Colour Video to produce Convocation videos and Best Colour retains the copyright. There is uncertainty as to when this arrangement came to an end, but it is likely that recordings from the 2000s on were shot by LIDC employees and SFU will own a copyright on this material. But as with the audio recordings, copyright in the content of Convocation addresses belongs to the speaker, not SFU, and duration will be based on life of creator + 70 years.

For more information, consult the reference archivist; see also the general note on mixed copyright ownership.
