Includes correspondence between Wah and other writers and poets, between Wah and publishers, friends, and professional acquaintances. Correspondents include George Bowering, Robert Creeley, Lionel Kearns, Ron Loewinsohn, Charles Olson, Michael Ondaatje, Raymond Souster, Warren Tallman, Audrey Thomas, and Phyllis Webb.

Academic work records

Series consists of records relating to Wah's work at various academic institutions, including Selkirk College, the David Thompson University Centre, and the University of Calgary. Records include course material and student assignments, instructional resources used by Wah, and administrative records created through Wah's employment at these various academic institutions.

The records in this series have been arranged into the following five sub-series: bpNichol seminar records, Course records, General instruction records, Markin-Flanagan residency records, and Administrative and general records.

Administrative and general records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Wah's work at various academic institutions, including Selkirk College, the David Thompson University Centre, and the University of Calgary. Records include administrative records from Wah’s employers, as well as other general records relating to professional activities, such as letters of reference written for current or former students.

File consists of a letter of reference from Wah for Catriona Strang, as well as her CV and letter of intent.

Winnipeg

File consists of correspondence, promotional posters, and event schedule relating to Wah’s participation in the Winnipeg International Writers Festival.

PPL [Parliamentary Poet Laureate]-current

File consists of correspondence and notes relating to Wah’s activities as Poet Laureate, including an agenda for a March 2013 meeting at the Library of Parliament.

Residency records

Series consists of records relating to the various residencies and related programs that Wah has participated in during his career. These residencies have primarily been writer-in-residence programs at various academic and non-academic institutions, the most notable of which being his tenure as the Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate from 2011-2013. Records include correspondence, promotional materials, and administrative records.

The records in this series have been arranged into the following two sub-series: Parliamentary Poet Laureate, and General records.

Parliamentary Poet Laureate records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Wah’s activities as Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada, a position he occupied from 2011-2013. Records include correspondence, writings by Wah, travel and event records, and administrative records.

File consists of various works of others. Some items are related to Wah’s activities reviewing literature: drafts of the books “Organ Music: parts of an autobiography” by bpNichol and “Chaos Inside Thunderstorms” by Gary Gottfriedson, along with brief blurbs about the books, and a letter from Tim Merrill asking Wah to read his poetry. File also includes page proofs of an article by Iyko Day about Wah, “Interventing Innocence: Race, ‘Resistance,” and the Asian North American Avant-Garde,” the poem “Did you Say” by Rob Budde, and the poems “Abdijection” and “Abdijection 2” by Daphne Marlatt and Wah, respectively.
