East India Carpets business records

This series contains material associated with records relating to the successful carpet business Ajaib started in 1948. After leaving military service he spent time in India training and returned to Canada to start East India Carpets in 1948. The business began as wholesale until expanding; the family has maintained their current retail location on 2nd street since 1962.
The series is divided into 2 sub-series: Photographs and Textual records.

This fonds contains textual and photographic materials relating to the life experiences of Ajaib (Jab) Sidhoo. The contents of the fonds have been divided chronologically into five distinct series representing significant periods in Jab’s life. Each series is then divided into two sub-series: Photographs and Textual records. The contents of these series are primarily photographs, but correspondence, newspapers, magazines, personal memorabilia and ephemera are also included.
The series contained in this fonds are as follows: Series 1: Records relating to childhood/high school (1923-1942?); Series 2: Records relating to World War II service (1939-1945); Series 3: Post-War Vancouver records(1945-2009); Series 4: East India Carpets business records (1948-2016) and; Series 5: B.C. Lions and Canadian Football League material (1953-1998)

Sidhoo, Ajaib

Textual records

This sub-series contains letters to and about both Ajaib and Nirmal, as well as other individuals (presumably extended family members). Also included are some memorabilia items and ephemera that illustrate how Ajaib and Nirmal enjoyed their free time (concerts, theatre shows, trips, etc.).

Photographs

This sub-series is primarily comprised of family photographs contained in a photo album, along with some loose images from later years.

Post-war Vancouver

This series is comprised of material associated with Ajaib’s life after World War II as he developed a successful business and started a family. Most of the images in this series come from a family album and are centered around Ajaib’s marriage to Nirmal and the early years of their marriage. Most of the material from later in his life is in the form of correspondence and other records. Also included are some memorabilia items and ephemera that illustrate how Ajaib and Nirmal enjoyed their free time (concerts, theatre shows, trips, etc.).

B.C. Lions and Canadian Football League material

This series is comprised of material collected by Ajaib reflecting his deep interest and involvement with Canadian professional football and, in particular, the BC Lions. Ajaib was one of the original 100 investors for the team in 1953 and became a lifelong season ticket holder.
The series is divided into 2 sub-series: Photographs and Textual records.
