The fonds consists of records relating to the development and administration of non-academic services for students, staff and faculty at Simon Fraser University. Activities, topics and events documented include the Dean's/Director's correspondence with student services departments, Student Society, the university community, and provincial and national organizations; participation on university committees; development of projects, programs, and workshops; and publications.

The types of documents include meeting agendas, minutes, and supporting papers; correspondence and reports; annual reports; statistical studies; budgets and financial working papers; contracts; program evaluations; and publications including student handbooks, non-credit course calendars, brochures, newsletters, course outlines, and newspaper clippings. Photographs and architectural plans are also included in the fonds.

Student Services

Director of Student Services

Series consists of records relating to William (Bill) Stewart's work as the Director of Student Services and includes financial planning and budgets for Student Services departments; correspondence with the university community regarding student issues; participation on university committees; and records regarding projects and functions organized for the campus student population. Activities documented include liaison with individual student services including the Chaplain's Office, Counselling Service, Daycare Centre, Food Services, International Office, Health Services, Residences, Traffic and Security, Financial Aid, the Canada Employment Centre, and the Reading and Study Centre. Records include correspondence and working papers, financial statements and budgets, agendas and minutes, reports and statistics, newspaper clippings, contracts, photographs and publications including newsletters, brochures and posters.

Residences

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of residences on campus and includes housing reports and student residence proposals; residence rental contracts; new residences planning documents; policies and procedures; and correspondence with students in residence, the City of Burnaby, the Tenant's Association, Residence Policy Committee, Residence Appeals Committee, Residence and Housing External Review Committee, and the Budget Committee. Also documented are issues related to residence staffing, living restrictions, campus parking, security and renovations, rental increases, student complaints, and publications produced by Residences about campus and off-campus housing. Records include correspondence and working papers, agendas and minutes, reports, financial statements, budgets, contracts, architectural plans and publications.

Residences and Housing

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of Residences and Housing and includes Dean's correspondence with the Residence Coordinator and campus residents regarding play areas for children, parking, food services, and housing repairs; student rental inquiries; housing and transportation surveys; fee and rental agreements; and research into off-campus student housing. Also documented are the minutes of the Board of Governors Special Housing Committee, the Residence Committee, the Tenants' Association, the Residence Planning and Policy Committee, and the President's Committee of University Residences. Sub-series consists of records relating to the Dean's participation on various campus committees and membership in professional associations. Dean of Student Affairs

Series consists of records relating to Lolita Wilson's work as Dean of Student Affairs. Activities documented include correspondence with members of the university community, external organizations including the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and with other Canadian universities and colleges; student orientation and surveys; admission and grading policies and procedures; budget planning; participation on university committees and national associations; and liaison with student services including Residence and Housing, Counselling Services, Health Services, Reading and Study Services, Chaplaincy, and Daycare. General Correspondence

Sub-series consists of records relating to the Dean's development and administration of student services on campus and includes correspondence with members of the university community including the President, Vice-President Administration, Vice-President Academic, faculty, and student services staff; correspondence with external organizations including the YWCA, Workman's Compensation Board, Selkirk College, Capilano College, Union Theological College, and the University of Lethbridge; student surveys and interviews; admissions policies and grading procedures; student orientation; development of the anti-calendar; budgets; a proposal for a division of University Services; and a Vancouver Life magazine article on mature students at SFU.
