Sous-fonds consists of materials collected or created by David Macaree. The sous-fonds is divided into three series: Papers authored, Papers authored by others, and Robbie Burns research and associated notes.
Records included original manuscripts and typescripts, notes, photocopies, published papers, programs and newspaper clippings.

Eli A. Popoff sous-fonds

This sous-fonds consists of personal archive of Eli A. Popoff and contains personal, administrative, teaching, and creative records created and collected by Eli A. Popoff during his lifetime as member of the Doukhobor community and the USCC, his work as the editor of Iskra newsletter and his work on the Executive Committee of the USCC. The records in this sous-fond span from 1895 to 2019, but majority of the records cover years from 1950-2014. These records document various Doukhobor cultural and religious practices and events, the work of the USCC committees, conventions, and symposiums, peace related conferences attended by Popoff and other Executive Committee members, organization of various project to promote the Doukhobor culture and traditions, including teaching Doukhobor history at Selkirk College, preparing Sunday School curriculums and compiling and translating Doukhobor hymns and songs and many others writings. The documents include correspondence with individuals and organizations within the Doukhobor community and outside of it as well as writings, publications, ephemera and other related records. . A part of the records consists of correspondence with various Soviet organizations and Russian individuals who were particularly keen to recruit Doukhobors during the Cold War years as well as anti-Vietnam war material, including correspondence regarding conscientious objectors and the rise of the peace movement in Canada and abroad.

This sous-fonds includes letters authored and received by J. A. Forin between 1926 and 1933, handwritten note, clippings, broadside as well as three publication belonging to Forin that contain his handwritten annotations. All records are in English.

Jeff Gibbs collection

Featuring Canadian environmentalist and adventurer Jeff Gibbs, the videotapes in this collection were created during filming for the UN-affiliated LIFEboat Flotilla program and are associated with Gibbs’ environmental conservation work with the indigenous community of Haida Gwaii. The resulting programs were titled “Jeff Gibbs: Lifeboat” and “Life Voyages”. This collection consists of multiple raw and finished recordings across multiple formats.

This sous-fonds consists of correspondence, speeches and writings, by J. J. Verigin and about him, clippings, articles, publications, statement, brief, reports as well as photographs that provide insight to J. J. Verigin’s life as leader of The Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ (USCC) and the Doukhobor community. The sous-fonds is arranged into the following five series: Correspondence (1938-1984); Writings, speeches ([1939?]-1978); Documents about J. J. Verigin (1955-1982); Family related records (1944-1971) and Photographs (1939-[195-]).

The majority of records from this fonds are located in Sous-fonds 1: Judith Marcuse Projects (1978-[before 2015]), the content of which predominately consists of business records (particularly requests for grants and donations), promotional materials, media clippings, photographs, correspondence, sound recordings, and moving images associated with various projects conceived and executed over the years.
This sous-fonds has been divided into 9 series – some general and some project-specific. For project-specific series a set of 5 standardized sub-series were assigned (when appropriate) in order to better facilitate access. The 9 series are – Series 1: Administrative records – general (1978-2010); Series 2: Air project (2006); Series 3: Earth project (2001-2009; Series 4: Financial records – general (1981-2010); Series 5: Fire project (1998-2009); Series 6: ICE project (1994-2006); Series 7: Kiss Project (1992-2001); Series 8: Productions/performance records – general (1979-[2001?]); and Series 9: Promotional records – general (1971-2009).

Records consist of five files of materials related to Louise Hutchinson’s term as the volunteer radio host for Vancouver Co-op Radio’s The Lesbian Show, between 1989 and 1991. Records include recordings on audio cassettes and audio reels of episodes of The Lesbian Show from when the show aired on the radio and related textual records. Most of the recordings were made of the radio show by Louise Hutchinson by home-recording the episodes of the show that aired on the radio.

Michael Riordon

Records consist primarily of sound recordings of interviews undertaken by Michael Riordon and his partner for his two published books, Out Our Way: Gay and Lesbian Life in the Country (Between the Lines, 1996) and Eating Fire: Family Life on the Queer Side (Between the Lines, 2001). Materials include 282 audio cassettes and a copy of Riordon’s notes on the tapes for Out Our Way. The fonds is arranged into two series.

Peter Ogloff and Marje Maloff

This sous-fonds comprises of 158 printed photographs in large format that depict close-up and portraits of the Doukhobor elders [ca. 1975)], and Anna Markova’s funeral in 1978. All images were photographed by Peter Ogloff. Accompanying the printed photographs are 3 digital files of original photographic images. In addition, the sous-fonds contains transcripts of interviews conducted by Marje Maloff [ca. 1975]. Many of these interviews were published in Sound Heritage Volume Vi (1977), number 4.

Verigin’s life as leader of the Doukhobors and the character of the Doukhobor community. This collection is split between three series: Textual Records ([1992-1999?]); Photographs ([ca. 1990-1992?]); Video recordings ([ca. 1992-1994?]). The textual records are comprised primarily of transcripts of interviews, some correspondence and a project proposal.

This sous-fonds comprises materials gathered by Tom McGauley during his research into Doukhobor affairs during the hearings of the Kootenay Committee on Intergroup Relations (1982-1986), as well as other Doukhobor related items.
A substantial bulk o f the collection is composed of the reports of the KCIR and photocopies of documents, translations, or other submissions made during the hearings. Also, included are original documentary photographs, Sons of Freedom circular letters and publications, correspondence with several members of the Doukhobor community, various notes and other observations made by McGauley, books, recordings, and a large number of relevant clippings and newspapers. A lot of material was collected in the Kootenays and considerable amount of the records in this sous-fonds is related to the Sons of Freedom.
