Poetry and creative writing

Series consists of drafts, sample pages, unpublished and published literary works by Pierre Coupey and other writers/poets, advertisements, ephemera, an early Pierre Coupey CV, reading engagement information, publication outline and forms for the West Coast Poetry and Poetics Anthology project, invitations, newspaper clippings, postcards, type written, email and hand written correspondence and an audio cassette.

This series is divided into 5 sub-series: 1: Poetry ([ca. 1957-2012]); 2: Poetry publications - general (1960-1979); 3: Poetry publications - "West Coast Poetry & Poetics Anthology" ( 1970-1980); 4: Literary works by other authors (1960-2012); 5: Research for literary works ([198-?-2011])

Exhibition records

Series consists of gallery correspondence, exhibition invitations and catalogues, artist catalogues, postcards, newspaper clippings, exhibition floor plans, handwritten notes, ephemera, magazine articles, mock-ups, drafts and proofs for layout and design work for invitations and catalogues, invitation lists, photocopies of guest books, mailing lists, an interview transcription of Coupey with a curator, exhibition planning records, cue card notes, research information, business cards, itinerary and travel records, gallery guides, comment books, corporate sponsorship records, to do lists, promotional drafts, newsletters, drafts for essays, budgets and receipts, a student essay, grant program information, printmaking information, laser copies and transparencies, installation photographs, quotes, memoranda, lists of artworks, press release and announcements and an exhibition attendance report.

Artwork

Series consists of artwork lists, reviews, art commission records, research, newspaper clippings, UBC panel discussion itinerary and letter, correspondence to and from art galleries, correspondence pertaining to government run art programs; design sketches, sketchbooks and journals; artworks on paper, newspaper clippings and art related print ephemera.

Notebooks

This series consists of notebooks found throughout the fonds and collected for ease of access. They consist of poem drafts, random notes or musings, and personal diaries kept from Colin's student days up until shortly before his death in 2018.

Business operational files and related records

Series consists of correspondence with professional organizations, governmental departments or ministries, and service providers dealt with in the course of normal business. Records include: internal communications, external correspondence, reports, grant applications and awards, contracts, minutes, notes, trade publications, contracts, memorandum, and invoices.

Sales figures records

Series consists of balance sheets detailing book sales by title per month, grouped by year. The reports visibly grow more complex over the years as computerization and software allowed for greater detail in accounting. Records include: balance sheets, both handwritten and printouts.

Payroll and taxes records

Series consists of financial records relating to payroll, taxes and employment forms. Records include: financial statements, printouts, balance sheets, notes, tax statements and receipts.

Draft manuscript files

Series consists of one file labeled “Manuscript – A Very Ordinary Life”. The papers inside are annotated and heavily edited at times.

Promotional records - general

This series is comprised mainly of newspaper clippings and reviews, press releases and press kits, posters and other promotional material related to performances of various JMP pieces.

Administrative records - general

This series is primarily comprised of business records related to the general business activities of Judith Marcuse Projects (and all associated identities), including contracts, annual reports and meeting minutes. In some cases there is overlap with a file containing general documents as well as project-specific ones; in those instances the file was assigned to the series appropriate to the majority of content.

Correspondence

Series documents Stanley’s interactions with friends and other writers in the form of both incoming letters and copies of outgoing letters. The letters include critical discussions of new work, either by Stanley or the correspondent, or relate to personal matters.

Series includes: personal and professional letters, post cards, and cards.

Series documents Stanley’s interactions with other writers and their work. Includes copies of other writers’ work sent to Stanley, Stanley’s suggestions, as well as published articles about the writers themselves and their work.

Series includes manuscripts, typescripts, posters, pamphlets, and newspaper cuttings.

Community activism records

The series documents the activities of community activism groups associated with Betty Krawczyk. Series consists of mission statements, flyers, a paper flag, song lyrics, correspondence, pamphlets, booklets, newspaper clippings, journals, three calendars, speeches, handwritten notes, a membership list, and envelopes for Women in the Woods, the Canadian Party of Women, and other community activism groups Krawczyk was involved with during the mid-1990s to 2007. Series also contains textile records, including a Prison Justice Day t-shirt, flags, hats, a tote bag, and an aboriginal bead blanket. A large portion of the series relates to the activities of Women in the Woods and Betty’s political movements.

Publications

Series documents Betty Krawczyk’s publishing activities in British Columbia. The series consists of five of her published books, correspondence, poetry, manuscripts, her published magazine articles, interview transcripts, business cards, pamphlets, speech notes, and notices of upcoming event. File also includes two floppy disks and financial records related to the publication of her works.

Photographs and related materials

Series consists of various photographs collected by Betty Krawczyk. Series includes photographic prints of various sizes that document Krawczyk’s activities in community organizations, protests, prison, and her family. Some photographs have corresponding handwritten notes attached to them.

Audio-visual records

This series consists of audio-visual recordings of performances of Krestova Youth Choir during the EXPO 1986 as well as audio recordings of singing and Sorokin’s speeches during his visit to the Doukhobor villages in British Columbia in 1954.

ICE: Beyond Cool project

This series consists primarily of business records, particularly fundraising activities, and promotional materials associated with the conception, development and execution of the ICE Project, which consisted of workshops and touring performances.

The series is comprised of the following sub-series: Sub-series 1: Administrative records (1994-2001); Sub-series 2: Financial records (1997-2002); Sub-series 3: Grants/fundraising records (1995-2001); Sub-series 4: Production/performance records (1995-2002): Sub-series 5: Promotional records (1996-2006).

“A Flag for Canada” – Rick Archbold

This series is comprised of records related to the revision of “I Stand for Canada” into an edition titled “A Flag for Canada: the Illustrated Biography of the Maple Leaf Flag”, published in 2008.
The series is divided into the following 5 sub-series: Drafts, proofs and edits (2007-2008), Agreements and contracts (2003-2012), Project development and correspondence (2002-2010), Post-production, promotions, and reviews (2006-2015), and Image copyright requests and agreements (2002-2008).

"Waterfront" - James Delgado

This series is comprised of records related to the conception and publication of the book “Waterfront: the Illustrated Maritime Story of Greater Vancouver” published in 2005. In 2006, “Waterfront” shared the BC Book Prize for Booksellers’ Choice award.

The series is divided into the following 7 sub-series: Drafts, proofs and edits (2003-2005), Agreements and contracts (2008), Project development and correspondence (2004-2005), Post-production, promotions, and reviews (2005-2010), Image copyright requests and agreements (2011-2013), Images collected for use in "Waterfront" (2011) and Research conducted for "Waterfront" (2003-2011).

Research

Series contains handwritten text, and copies of newspaper clippings. The handwritten text may relate to A Voice was Heard in Ramah. The newspaper clippings were used for research when writing Bleak November.

Manuscripts

Series consists of typed and handwritten manuscripts of stories, novels, and poems written by June Skinner. It also contains galley proofs from several of her novels. Series is arranged into two sub-series: Published ([195-?]-1981), and Unpublished (1936-[1992?]).

Poetry – unpublished book records

Series consists of material relating to unpublished collections of Peter Trower’s poetry. Includes an edited manuscript for a proposed book entitled "The Gathering: Poems New and Revised," initial and final selections of poems for a proposed book entitled "Through the Apricot Air: Selected poems 1969-2002," poems drafts and selections of a proposed book entitled "Smeltertown and Other Poems" (or, alternately, "Smeltertown and Points South"), and an aborted logging poetry anthology to be co-edited with David Day.

Film scripts and related records

Series consists of records relating to film adaptations of Peter Trower’s novels "Grogan’s Cafe" and "Dead Man’s Ticket," as well as those relating to his acting role (as himself) in "The Diary of Evelyn Lau." Records include screenplays, correspondence, option agreements, and shooting schedule.

Series has been arranged into the following three sub-series according to film: Grogan’s cafe film records (1994-2005), Dead man’s ticket film records ([ca. 2000]) and The diary of Evelyn Lau film records (1993).

Readings, festivals and events records

Series consists of records relating to Peter Trower’s readings, his musical performances, and his participation in various literary festivals, conferences and other events. Series includes video and sound recordings of readings by Trower and readings by other authors, including Al Purdy and Patrick Lane. Also included are video and audio recordings of Caulk Boots & Marlin Spikes performances that Trower participated in, and a video recording copy of the "Between the Sky and the Splinters" documentary, filmed by the CBC in 1976. Record types include correspondence, notes, reading programs, set lists, newspaper articles and clippings, as well as posters, brochures, and other promotional material.

Awards and honours records

Series consists of correspondence, certificates, and promotional material relating to various awards and honours received by Peter Trower. Includes records relating to Trower’s receipt of a BC 2000 Book Award, the BC Gas Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 and the Canadian Author’s Association Jack Chalmers Poetry Award in 2005. Series also includes records relating to his third place finish for the BC Book Prizes Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize in 2001 and his nomination for a 2003 ReLit Award in the poetry category.

Personal records

Series consists of records of a personal nature created or acumulated by Peter Trower. Records include material relating to The Dylan Thomas Circle of Vancouver (an organization that promotes an appreciation of Dylan Thomas’ works), pamphlets from memorial services of Trower's friends, an invitation to Trower's nephew's wedding, and a photograph of Trower's former girlfriend June Boe.
