Speeches, writings, views

This series consists of documents that were written by P. V. Verigin himself or by other individuals relating his views and ideas. These documents include transcripts of speeches and interviews, petitions, opinion pieces on the Doukhobor community and faith as well as some of the letter-like documents with his opinions on education. It also contains 70 page manuscript in a notebook by F. I. Wishloff recording P.V. Verign’s speeches. All documents in Russian, except for a few documents supplied with English translation.

Records relating to Innes’ paintings

Series consists of postcards of images of Innes’ paintings, programs and reviews from exhibits of his work in Vancouver, articles and pamphlets about his work, photographs of paintings, and sketches.

Writings about P.V. Verigin

This series consist of letters, writings and notes about P. V. Verigin’s life and work by various individuals and organizations, such as CCUB that interacted with him closely. Many of the documents refer to and were written after the death of Verigin in 1924. The file includes articles about Verigin’s return from exile in Siberia by A.V. Efanov and “P. V. Verigin and Molokan” by A. P. Kariakin. Series also includes Anastasia Hoboloff’s account of her dream about P. V. Verigin. Other documents are by I. Konkin, V.S.L., Larion Straukov, Ivan Okunov, S. Vereshagin, I. Tregubov. Some documents do not indicate authors. Documents are mostly in Russian.

Photographs

This series consists of The Makortoff family collection of 136 photographic images. Some of the photographic images in this collection are in the form of postcards. The images depict Makortoff family members as well as various individuals related to the family at various social functions. Often, individuals or groups were photographed in the garden, in the fields or in front of the farm dwellings. There are photographs depicting transportation modes of the time period including horse carts and automobiles.

Writings

This series consists of the Doukhobor writings in various formats including: journals, dairies, notebooks, manuscripts, addresses to the community, notes, narratives, philosophical writings, song texts, letters, speeches, articles, newspaper clippings, excerpts and other types. These records reveal Doukhobor personal experiences as immigrants, their views on politics, religion and ideology, and their way of life. Some of these accounts are written by identified individual members of the Doukhobor community and many are anonymous.

Series consists of four photographs of Innes; two are copies of the same portrait and two are candid images.

Audio-visual records

This series consists of audio-visual recordings of performances of Krestova Youth Choir during the EXPO 1986 as well as audio recordings of singing and Sorokin’s speeches during his visit to the Doukhobor villages in British Columbia in 1954.

Photographs

This series consists of one party hand-colored and 25 black and white photographs of J. J. Verigin and his family taken at various events, such as funeral of Peter P. Verigin, funeral of Evodokia, funeral of Anna Fedorova, J. J. Verigin’s wedding and Jubilee 50th anniversary of Doukhobors in Canada. There are several composite photographs containing images that pre-date the composites in some cases by a couple of decades.

This series consists of documents found throughout the fonds that relate to Colin's life outside of his poetry - either academic, employment, personal, medical or legal.

Works by other authors

Series consists of written works by other authors including drafts, articles, poems, and book manuscripts. In addition to these the series also includes collected published works by other authors including books, chapbooks, broadsides, journals, and other types of published materials. The series is divided into two sub-series: Collected publications; and General works.

Ephemera

Series consists of various types of textual ephemera, including newspaper clippings, event programs and ticket stubs, curriculum vitae of other colleagues, as well as other personal mementos and textual material.

CBC

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved in when employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Records include drafts of screenplays, scripts, publicity, administrative documents, and other records related to the creation and production of Duke's projects. This series contains records related to the following projects:

Personal notes

Series consists of notes, notebooks/journals, and press clippings that are both specifically related to projects and also those not directly linked to a specific project. Topics include:

Research articles

Series consists of photocopied scholarly articles used by Blaser for personal and academic research.

Conference material

Series consists of material related to poetry conferences attended by Blaser. Records include essays, poems, correspondence, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings. Series is divided into the following two sub-series: Recovery of the Public World, 70th birthday conference; and General conferences.

Personal

This series contains newspaper clippings, quotes (many with June's personal commentary), and photographs. Most of which were created before June was married or while she was a newlywed. Other records in this series are a report card, and birthday cards for a baby.

Duthie Books 40th anniversary project files

Series is comprised of records gathered and produced for the fortieth anniversary of Duthie Books, celebrated in 1997. Records include photographs, correspondence, notes, drafts and ephemera.

Writing

Series consists of written works by Thesen. Materials include cassette tapes, handwritten notes, drafts, unpublished works, typescripts/manuscripts of poetry, prose, articles, reviews, cassette tapes, interviews, book cover proofs, notebooks, and other materials. The series is divided into the following three sub-series: Drafts, Edits & Typescripts, Reviews & Interviews and Awards: Judging and Nominations.

Research

Series contains handwritten text, and copies of newspaper clippings. The handwritten text may relate to A Voice was Heard in Ramah. The newspaper clippings were used for research when writing Bleak November.

Promotional and advertisement material

Series consists of material related to the promotion and advertisement of Rimmer’s typographic and graphic design work. Records include sample linocut prints, typeface samples, illustration proof-sheets, portfolios, and commercial advertisements.

Research and advocacy records

Series consists of research material relating to a number of issues the Canadian Farmworkers Union investigated in order to provide information to workers, provide support to other groups, and publicly advocate for awareness and change. Subjects include the regulation and safe handling of pesticides, workers’ rights and occupational safety legislation, and general labour and minority rights. Records include newspaper clippings, journal articles, publicity materials, photographs of workers and events, awareness and event posters, worker housing blueprints, bumper stickers, and other ephemera.

The series is arranged into four sub-series: Pesticides subject files and photographs (1979-1994); Occupational health and safety subject files and photographs ([197-]-2011); Labour and rights movements subject files (1979-1998); and General subject files (1979-1993).

Writing by Others

Series consists of written works by other authors. Material includes drafts and typescripts/manuscripts of poems, thesis chapters, book chapters, reviews of Thesen's work, magazines, as well as newpaper and magazine clippings. This series is divided into the following two sub-series: Typescripts and Reviews, Interviews & Articles.

Correspondence

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence with family, friends, and colleagues. Material includes handwritten, typed and facsimile correspondence of both a personal and professional nature. Additional material includes photographs, color slides, screen-printed paper prints, postcards, cards, drafts of poetry & other works, newspaper & magazine clippings, 3 1/2 x 4 inch computer disks, a small branch, flyers & invitations for events, and other textual records.

Archival documents and research notes

Series consists of photocopied and microfilmed archival documents generated by government bodies, copies of photographs, and handwritten research notes. Records include correspondence (including private letters of South Asians in North America, acquired through government surveillance), as well as telegrams, reports, press clippings from government department files (Canadian, British, Indian and American), and from Governors General files, Prime Ministers' files, and publications.

Records are from Canadian, British, Indian and American archives, primarily from Library and Archives Canada. MsC 183-0-3-0-0-6 contains a guide to most of these materials. The archival reference and origin is written or stamped on each document.

Poetry – unpublished book records

Series consists of material relating to unpublished collections of Peter Trower’s poetry. Includes an edited manuscript for a proposed book entitled "The Gathering: Poems New and Revised," initial and final selections of poems for a proposed book entitled "Through the Apricot Air: Selected poems 1969-2002," poems drafts and selections of a proposed book entitled "Smeltertown and Other Poems" (or, alternately, "Smeltertown and Points South"), and an aborted logging poetry anthology to be co-edited with David Day.

Event photographs

Series consists of photographs of Canadian Farmworkers Union staff and numerous social and cultural events held by the union, including bhangra performances as well as visits by United Farmworkers of America President Cesar Chavez and the Manitoba Farm Workers Association.

Charan Gill photographs

Series consists of photographs relating to Charan Gill’s run for political office with the BC New Democratic Party (NDP), independent of his work with the Canadian Farmworkers Union. These photographs were received with the CFU material and included in the collection due to Charan Gill’s involvement with the CFU from founding through the transfer of administration of the union to the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS).

Ephemera

Series is comprised of ephemera collected by Duthie Books, Ltd. Ephemera includes buttons, flyers, magnets, a patch, sticker and backstage pass for a 1995 Bryan Adams show.
