Administrative records

Series consists of correspondence, legal and financial records, notes, manuals, plans, agreements, project files, customer survey research and other materials generated or used by Celia Duthie, as president of Duthie Books, Ltd.

Agendas

Series consists of 8 Economist hard-bound agendas. These agendas outline Duke’s personal and professional schedules during this time period.

Art prints and illustrations

Series consists of numerous prints and illustrations created by Rimmer as art pieces, as well as linocut blocks, woodcut blocks and stencils created by Rimmer to produce prints. Includes images of animals, people, still life, Frederic W. Goudy and keepsakes created for the American Typecasting Fellowship, (A.T.F.) and other associations.

Artistic films

Series consists of analogue and digitized artistic films which are possibly created by Arthur Erickson. Imagery depicted include landscapes, children, architecture, and subjects interacting with each other and their surroundings.

Artworks

Series consists of print works on paper, photographic documentation, paintings, drawings and linocuts used in the preparation of artworks and chapbooks. Series is divided into the following four sub-series: Works on paper (1996–2005), Linocuts [before 2009], Photographs documenting artworks (1991–[before 2009]), and Artworks by others (2002–[before 2013]).

Audio recordings

Series consists of audio recordings made by Duke including personal musical compilations, family voice recordings, interviews with Duke and various production themes.

Audiovisual materials related to Arthur Erickson

Series consists of analogue and digitized motion picture documentaries, exhibitions, TV programs, news reels, interviews, Architectural Institute of America meetings, and aerial footage. The subject of these motion pictures includes Erickson, the Erickson/Massey Architects firm, and specific buildings and designs by Erickson.

Note that a number of the motion pictures include duplicates stored on different mediums (e.g. Betacam, U-matic, and VHS), so total item numbers do not correspond with total objects.

Author correspondence

Series consists of correspondence between the publisher and various authors regarding current and future projects, editorial discussions and decisions, revisions, biographical information, book tour information, financial estimates and payments, and press coverage. Records include: correspondence, invoices, orders, receipts, notes, contracts, trade publications, photographs and newspaper clippings.

Banff Television Festival

Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to Duke's involvement with the Banff Television Festival. This series includes business correspondence, personal notes and information regarding Duke's contributions to adjudications and presentations within the organization.

Book reviews and related records

Series consists of correspondence related to the marketing, reviews and sales of New Star publications. The majority of the series are news clippings of various book reviews. Records include: correspondence, photocopies of articles, newspaper clippings and cartoons, and trade publications.

Can You Hear the Nightbird Call?

Series consists of notebooks containing drafts and notes, unbound drafts, and copies edited for the novel Can You Hear the Nightbird Call? It also includes articles, interviews and reviews from Canadian and international newspapers.

CBC

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved in when employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Records include drafts of screenplays, scripts, publicity, administrative documents, and other records related to the creation and production of Duke's projects. This series contains records related to the following projects:

• Quest (ca. 1962)
• The Insiders (19-)

CKVU

Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to the business transactions, staffing, and programming of CKVU-TV Vancouver. Due to the takeover of the station by Global TV and the subsequent litigations, this series also contains various legal records including transcripts of court proceedings, settlement contracts, affidavits and subpoenas. This series also includes business correspondence and personal information regarding Duke's role within the organization.

Commercial work

Series consists of sample, draft and completed commercial work produced by Rimmer as a free-lance designer employed by various companies, organizations and individuals. Records include items completed by Rimmer for Colophon Books, including Alison’s Fishing Birds and preliminary work on Allen Ginsberg’s Meditations at Lake Louise; editorial cartoons created by Rimmer for the Williams Lake Tribune from 1960 to 1961; and numerous prints, paintings, and logos created for commercial purposes. Companies, organizations and individuals represented include Murchie’s Tea and Coffee Ltd., Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Air Canada, Vancouver Public Library, Hot Jazz Club, the band Heart, Whistler village, Shrine Circus, and Douglas & McIntyre Publishers.

Correspondence

Series documents Stanley’s interactions with friends and other writers in the form of both incoming letters and copies of outgoing letters. The letters include critical discussions of new work, either by Stanley or the correspondent, or relate to personal matters.

Correspondence

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence of a personal and business nature between Rimmer and various members of the printing community, including Paul Duensing, Jules Remedios Faye, Richard L. Hopkins, Richard Kegler, Robert R. Reid, William Rueter, Andrew Steeves, Christopher Stern and Alan C. Waring. Correspondence includes technical advice and comments on recent work. Records also include contact information, thank you letters and prints, as well as correspondence related to various organizations, including the American Typecasting Fellowship, Typochondriacs and the Alcuin Society.

Series consists of one file labeled “Manuscript – A Very Ordinary Life”. The papers inside are annotated and heavily edited at times.

Editorial correspondence and related records

Series consists of correspondence between the publisher, sub-contractors, vendors, promoters and authors. Most files contain instructions and drafts as to editorial layout, typesetting, artwork, etc. Records include: correspondence, style sheets, contracts, invoices, grant applications, editorial copy, galley proofs, newspaper clippings, magazines, cartoons, photographs and a poster.

Series consists of records related to Duke’s personal and administrative affairs. This diverse series includes:

General photographs

Series consists of slides and prints featuring images of Jim Rimmer, as well as various aspects and stages of the printing process and the design and cutting of metal typefaces in his studio. Also included is an image of Gerald Giampa.

Series documents Stanley’s creative process, including research, writing, and editing in preparation for publication.

Handmade papers

The series documents Lissel as a handmade paper artist, which includes various handmade papers that he has experimented on. He did experiments on different materials, such as cotton, flax, and linen—most of which are defined on the individual paper. Paper samples include kozo and gampi and other samples. The series is arranged in chronological order.

Series consists of the publications and other records generated from the publishing activity of housepress over its seven-year existence.
