Accounts correspondence and invoices

Series consists of accounts payable and received by various vendors, distributers, professional organizations and service providers dealt with in the course of normal business. Records include: correspondence, balance sheets, invoices, orders, receipts, contracts, trade publications, and newspaper clippings.

Author correspondence

Series consists of correspondence between the publisher and various authors regarding current and future projects, editorial discussions and decisions, revisions, biographical information, book tour information, financial estimates and payments, and press coverage. Records include: correspondence, invoices, orders, receipts, notes, contracts, trade publications, photographs and newspaper clippings.

Book reviews and related records

Series consists of correspondence related to the marketing, reviews and sales of New Star publications. The majority of the series are news clippings of various book reviews. Records include: correspondence, photocopies of articles, newspaper clippings and cartoons, and trade publications.

Business operational files and related records

Series consists of correspondence with professional organizations, governmental departments or ministries, and service providers dealt with in the course of normal business. Records include: internal communications, external correspondence, reports, grant applications and awards, contracts, minutes, notes, trade publications, contracts, memorandum, and invoices.

Editorial correspondence and related records

Series consists of correspondence between the publisher, sub-contractors, vendors, promoters and authors. Most files contain instructions and drafts as to editorial layout, typesetting, artwork, etc. Records include: correspondence, style sheets, contracts, invoices, grant applications, editorial copy, galley proofs, newspaper clippings, magazines, cartoons, photographs and a poster.

Sales figures records

Series consists of balance sheets detailing book sales by title per month, grouped by year. The reports visibly grow more complex over the years as computerization and software allowed for greater detail in accounting. Records include: balance sheets, both handwritten and printouts.

Payroll and taxes records

Series consists of financial records relating to payroll, taxes and employment forms. Records include: financial statements, printouts, balance sheets, notes, tax statements and receipts.

CKVU

Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to the business transactions, staffing, and programming of CKVU-TV Vancouver. Due to the takeover of the station by Global TV and the subsequent litigations, this series also contains various legal records including transcripts of court proceedings, settlement contracts, affidavits and subpoenas. This series also includes business correspondence and personal information regarding Duke's role within the organization.

Personal journals

Series consists of notebooks, journals, notes and press clippings. From about 1945 to 2005 Duke made nearly daily entries in notebooks. These notebooks contain Duke’s thoughts, observations and concepts for future projects ranging from articles to screenplays, legal proceedings, housing plans and travel accounts.

Agendas

Series consists of 8 Economist hard-bound agendas. These agendas outline Duke’s personal and professional schedules during this time period.

Personal publicity

Series consists of magazines, newspapers, clippings and photocopies of articles about Duke or his various projects. Clippings were either set aside by Duke himself, or received from professional press clippings companies.

Film and television works

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved with. Records include drafts of screenplays, scripts, publicity, call sheets, administrative documents, shooting scripts, itineraries and other records related to the development and production of Duke’s cinematic projects. Series consists of video recordings including copies of Duke’s cinematic productions, interviews and award presentations.

Photographs

Series consists of various production, personal and publicity photographs as well as photographs used for legal purposes.

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved in when employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
