University Correspondence

Series consists of records relating to the Vice-President's correspondence with members of the university community including the President, Resources Office, Board of Governors, Alumni Association, University Services Office, Resources Office, Residences, Cooperative Education, the Centre for Communications and the Arts, and the Bursar's Office regarding program administration, budgeting, and student concerns. Also included are reports by Lolita Wilson on students in academic difficulty and statistics on course drops, and a planning report for SFU by Arthur Erickson Architects. Records include correspondence and working papers, agendas and minutes, reports, questionnaires, and financial statements.

Series consists of records relating to the Vice-President's liaison with various departments and projects on campus. For a list of the departments, see Access Points below. Records also consist of adjudication of student bursaries and fees; programming for the "SFU Today" television show; community liaison activities; surveys on non-registering students and student attrition; the student garden plot project; orientation planning; renovation proposals for the rotunda; and a proposed campus poison control centre. Records include correspondence and working papers, financial statements, reports, surveys and publications.

SFU dance program history and development

Series consists of records relating to Iris Garland’s active involvement in the establishment and development of SFU’s contemporary dance program, as well as her support for the creation of an academic, credited fine and performing arts program at the University. The series also includes records documenting the history of the dance program in the context of the local dance scene and other post-secondary dance programs, as well as records pertaining to the Burnaby Mountain Dance Company and the Off-Centre Dance Company, both offshoots of the SFU program. Records include reports, proposals, copies of clippings and reviews, notes, correspondence, performance programmes, and background literature.

Red notebook

Sub-sub-series consists of one red notebook with working notes on archival sources taken by Hugh Johnston during the preparation of Radical Campus. Pages are numbered 1 to 411. Sub-series consists of records relating to planning for the budget requirements of new and proposed academic programs, including proposals that were not successful. Records include correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, program proposals and curricula, comments by external reviewers, and budget estimates and calculations.

Fonds consists of records relating to the academic and professional life of Iris Garland, and in part to her personal life. Activities, topics, and events documented include Garland’s establishment of SFU’s dance program; course development and instruction, including early telelearning education; independent and university choreography work; university and dance community service; presentations and writing; education and employment; and some of her early life. Records include notes, course syllabi, copies of clippings and reviews, performance programmes, reports, proposals, publications, correspondence, photographic materials, and sound and moving image recordings.
