Prose – articles, short stories and related records

Series consists of published and unpublished articles and short stories written by Peter Trower. Records include manuscripts and article clippings, including many articles published during Trower’s time as a journalist with the Coast News.

Series has been arranged into the following three sub-series: General records (1953-2002), Chronological files (1960-1999) and Coast News articles, reviews and poems (1993).

Notebooks

Series consists of notebooks containing drafts and outlines of and notes for poems, articles, and short stories by Trower.

Film scripts, screenplays and related records

Series consists of scripts and screenplays written by Norman Klenman, alone and in collaboration with others, for feature and short films, both produced and not produced, as well as related records. Additional material includes related notes, correspondence, contracts, research material, and moving images. The series has been arranged into the following three sub-series: Film scripts, screenplays and related records – general, "The Swiss Conspiracy" screenplays and related records, and “Woodsmen of the West” screenplays and related records.

B.C. Lions and Canadian Football League material

This series is comprised of material collected by Ajaib reflecting his deep interest and involvement with Canadian professional football and, in particular, the BC Lions. Ajaib was one of the original 100 investors for the team in 1953 and became a lifelong season ticket holder.
The series is divided into 2 sub-series: Photographs and Textual records.

Yvonne Klan records

Series consists of material relating to Peter Trower’s partner Yvonne Klan and her writing endeavours. Includes a published article written by Klan, a review of her book "The Old Red Shirt" and a draft of Trower’s introduction to the book, as well as another article and several tributes to Klan written after her death in 2004.

Newspaper articles and party newsletters

This sub-series contains entire issues of party newsletters covering period between 1954 and 2005 and newspaper clippings covering 1988-1991. The clippings were originally cut from local newspapers, principally The Province and The Sun. The news clippings are from period of 1988 to 1991 and reflect very challenging times that BC Social Credit and the BC Social Credit Government Caucus was experiencing at that time.

Chronological files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Bringhurst's various professional activities. Such activities include writing, editorial work, his role as judge for various literary and typographic prizes, and speaking engagements at numerous conferences, festivals, and other events around the world. Records include drafts of talks and written works such as essays and books, notes and research related to talks and writings, page proofs, correspondence with event organizers, travel tickets and itineraries, and newspaper articles, brochures, conferences programs and other ephemera documenting events he participated in.

Family, education and career records

Series consists of records relating to Mark Winston's family and his academic and employment career and includes personal correspondence with family and friends; elementary and high school report cards and university transcripts; student employment correspondence and records; Simon Fraser University career records and curriculum vitae; research and teaching awards; published media stories about Winston's research; and childhood photographs of Winston, his family, friends, as an academic at SFU, colleagues, annual photos of his research students nicknamed the "Swarm Team," places, and events.

Records include correspondence, transcripts, reports, research notes, application forms, certificates, publications, photographs, and slides.

Photographic material

Series consists of promotional photographs of Purcell String Quartet, as well as personal photographs taken by individual members during tours and events. Includes contact sheets, negatives, and photographic prints.

Files are arranged by contact sheets, digitized photographs, and photographs chronologically. Where known, the photographer for a set of photographs is noted in the file title (e.g., File 5 - USSR tour - Phillipe Etter).

Series consists of records relating to Peter Buitenhuis's writing and publications. For types of records, see sub-series descriptions.

Documents about J.J. Verigin

This series consist of documents written about J. J. Verigin in relation to his role as a leader of the USCC and his prominent role within the Doukhobor communities. The documents include: reports, accounts, opinions, statement, speech, biographies, song texts, hansard, newspaper and magazine clippings and articles. Most documents are in English, except one in Russian; all documents are printed.

Teaching records

Series consists of records made and/or received by Peter Buitenhuis in the course of his teaching career. Topics and activities covered include course instruction and planning, program development, and Buitenhuis’s teaching positions and sabbaticals. The records reflect Buitenhuis's work at such institutions as University of California Berkeley, Yale University, McGill University, and Simon Fraser University's Department of English.

Records include exams; course readings, notes, outlines, and class materials; student assignments; a thesis; program proposals; Master of Publishing Steering Committee minutes; and correspondence.

1956 Official files

Series consists of the official files of the Premier's Office opened, or continued, in 1956. The records reflect correspondence with Members elected in 1956 (years are cumulated), B.C. Electric, B.C. Power Commission, Federal Departments, Finance, P.G.E. Railway and Power Development. Included are correspondence, documents, reports, minutes, statistics and speeches.

Clippings

This series consists of clippings from various British Columbia newspapers between 1956-1971 depicting matters related to the Doukhobor community and other matters relating to Efanov‘s political interest, such as political cartoons, Winston Churchill and J. F. Kennedy. Many clippings depict marriage announcement of the Doukhobor members or their descendants.

Audio/visual materials

Series consists of VHS, DVDs, Betacam, Umatic and reel-to-reel recordings of audio-visual materials related to IMAG's training programs and film festivals.The series is divided into three subseries: Submissions to film festivals, commercials and other promotional films for the film festivals, and student work or other recordings produced as part of a training program.

Personal records

This series consists of personal records for Judith Marcuse, mostly correspondence and records relating to her schooling, dance training, and career apart from any activities related to Judith Marcuse Dance Company. This includes her work with Bat-Dor Dance Company and Ballet Ramberts.

Television scripts, screenplays and related records

Series consists of draft and final version scripts and screenplays for television film series, plays and serial programs, produced and not produced, as well as related records. The majority of the scripts and screenplays were written by Klenman; others are based on his writings. Includes scripts and screenplays written for CBC-TV, 20th Century Fox, QM Productions and Universal Television Productions, and the following television series: "The Danny Thomas Hour", "The Felony Squad", "I Dream of Jeannie", "The Invaders", "The Iron Horse", "Our Man Flint", "The Phoenix Team", "Quest", "The Seaway", "The Starlost", and "The Survivors". Screenplay projects for CBC include “H.R. : H.R. MacMillan – the early years” for the series "The Winners"; dramatizations of Barry Broadfoot’s "Six War Years" and Henrik Ibsen’s "An Enemy of the People"; as well as “Sam. Johnson” and “Tim Buck : Shooting Reds in the Kingston Pen,” neither of which were produced. Also included in the series are three film reels for "California Dreamin’" (1968) an hour-long documentary for CTV about the migration of Canadian talent to Hollywood, and Klenman’s story ideas for several popular television series, including "Bonanza", "Daniel Boone", "The F.B.I.", "Felony Squad", "The Fugitive", "Jericho", "Judd for the Defense", "The Invaders", "The Iron Horse", "I Spy", "It Takes a Thief", "Mannix", "Mission Impossible", "The Outsider", "Run for Your Life", "Star Trek" and "Tarzan".

Correspondence and personal records

Series includes correspondence between Peter Buitenhuis and various friends, colleagues, and peers—including Margaret Atwood, Timothy "Tiff" Findley, Northrop Frye, Thomas Wolfe, Adrienne Clarkson, Norman Holmes Pearson, Glynn Beard, Earle Birney, Anne Cameron, Joy Kogawa, Nigel Nicolson, Peter Such, Derek Martinus, Richard Stern, Betty Lambert, and Scott Symons (see files F-242-4-0-0-1 "Correspondence", F-242-4-0-0-2 "Correspondence: II L-Z," vol 1, and F-242-4-0-0-13 Scott Symons--please note that some original documents have been removed from the files and replaced with photocopies). Series also includes records relating to Buitenhuis's personal affairs, including financial records; party arrangements; church activities; and advocacy interests and involvement. Topics documented include the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) program "Ideas," publications and manuscripts by Buitenhuis as well as other authors, Ford Maddox Ford, the Public Lending Right Commission, West Coast Energy, and Park Royal Shopping Centre.

Records primarily consist of correspondence, but also include forms, a notebook, brochures, and reports.

1963 Official files

Series consists of the official files of the Premier's Office opened, or continued, in 1963. The records reflect topics such as B.C. Hydro, Federal Departments, Federal-Provincial Conferences, Finance, P.G.E. Railway, Power Development, Columbia River, Premiers' Conference and Social Credit. Included are correspondence with members elected in 1963 (years are cumulated), other correspondence, telegrams, reports, speeches, minutes, statements and notes.

Poetry and creative writing

Series consists of drafts, sample pages, unpublished and published literary works by Pierre Coupey and other writers/poets, advertisements, ephemera, an early Pierre Coupey CV, reading engagement information, publication outline and forms for the West Coast Poetry and Poetics Anthology project, invitations, newspaper clippings, postcards, type written, email and hand written correspondence and an audio cassette.

This series is divided into 5 sub-series: 1: Poetry ([ca. 1957-2012]); 2: Poetry publications - general (1960-1979); 3: Poetry publications - "West Coast Poetry & Poetics Anthology" ( 1970-1980); 4: Literary works by other authors (1960-2012); 5: Research for literary works ([198-?-2011])

Works of other writers

Series documents Stanley’s interactions with other writers and their work. Includes copies of other writers’ work sent to Stanley, Stanley’s suggestions, as well as published articles about the writers themselves and their work.

Series includes manuscripts, typescripts, posters, pamphlets, and newspaper cuttings.

General correspondence and personal records

This series is comprised of some of Laurier LaPierre’s personal records, including legal and medical records, newspaper articles and both personal and general correspondence. It contains primarily textual records, but also photographs and some ephemera. Included also are programs, cards and ephemera from LaPierre’s funeral.

Bookmarks

Series consists of original bookmarks produced by Duthie Books. Bookmarks were designed and printed by artists and printmakers like Takao Tanabe, Chris Bergthorson, Hugh Michaelson, Reinhard Derreth and Barbarian Press, among others. The company published approximately nine million bookmarks between 1957 and 1999. A selection of bookmarks have been reproduced in “Duthie’s Bookmarks: 50 years of Bookmarks for Duthie’s Books,” published in 2008 by the Alcuin Society.

Publications

Series consists of records relating to Professor Finlayson's administrative service and membership in Academic Women. Includes correspondence and newsletters.

Series documents Stanley’s creative process, including research, writing, and editing in preparation for publication.

Dance, movement and music scores

This series represents a collection of dance scores and choreographic materials compiled throughout Ruth’s career. Some are for single events while others show the growth and evolution of pieces as they are adapted over the years for different venues, groups or types of dances, and to the audiences for which they are performed.
