The records of the John Howard Society of the Lower Mainland of British Columbia consist of the Society's administrative records and client case files and cards used to document information about individual clients. They encompass work done as a provincial society and also as a working office in the Lower Mainland.

The administrative records of the Society document all aspects of the Society's work. They are broken down into three separate series, reflecting the particular manner in which the Society operated. First, a separate series of miscellaneous records which the Society appears to have kept apart from its established file system dates from 1932 to 1988. A second series of administrative records dating from 1932 to about 1968 reflects the Society's file classification plan in use at the time (see Appendix B1 - hard-copy finding aid only). A third group of administrative records reflects a new file classification plan which replaced the earlier file system (see Appendix B2 - hard-copy finding aid only). Administrative records that have accrued to the fonds have been added to this series.

Later records demonstrate the increased activity of the society in addressing the social problems of crime, including victim assistance programs and community assessments, as well as administration of halfway houses.

Individual case files and cards provide evidence of the Society's involvement with clients on probation including repeat or 'habitual' offenders, as well as prison visits, counseling sessions and other related actions undertaken by the Society on behalf of its clients.

Records comprising this fonds are records created at the Vancouver office of the Society, and do not include records created by the various regional offices.

The fonds comprises records made or received in the course of administering the BCHPA's central and divisional organizations and carrying out their functions and programs. Most of the records originated with the Central Executive. Activities documented include board, committee and general members' meetings; correspondence of BCHPA officers; management of Association finances; evolution of the BCHPA constitution, by-laws and organizational structure; advice to governments and intervention in public policy debates relating to apiculture; production of the Association's newsletter; development of beekeeping educational programs and seminars; and participation in markets, exhibits and fairs. Records include constitution and by-laws; meeting agendas, minutes and supporting papers; correspondence; reports and briefs; cash books; grant applications and proposals; copies of the Association newsletter; and course outlines and teaching material.

The fonds consists of one bound copy of six plays in manuscript. The volume is entitled Mr. Seckers Manuscript, Secker being the prominent British publisher, Martin Secker. According to Seckers handwritten note at the front of the volume, these plays formed part of a volume he published in 1923.

Edward McWhinney was an international authority on constitutional and aviation law, a prolific author, member of multiple academic and professional organizations, a Member of the Canadian Parliament and a lecturer at universities around the world. In his later years he actively supported numerous institutions, including the charitable foundation he established with his wife, Emily McWhinney. He routinely travelled, and this collection reflects the diverse range of his careers and interests.

Consisting primarily of records created in the course of his extensive professional and political careers, this collection contains correspondence, newspaper and magazine articles, handwritten notes and cards, photographs, published materials, books, photocopies, and ephemera. The fonds has been split into 4 series: Politics and law (1943-2015); Publications and reviews (1956-2015); Associations, conferences and academia (1940-2015); Personal (1914-2015).

Fonds consists of correspondence, written works and published materials by Wah and other writers, photographs, and other records accumulated by Wah during his lifetime, arising from both personal and professional activities. Records include poems, essays and reviews; journals and notebooks; book manuscripts; teaching materials; travel records; administrative records; and promotional material for conferences, workshops and other events.

The records in this fonds have been arranged into the following eight series: Correspondence (1960-2013); Writings and related records (1961-2012); Research records, works of others, and works about Wah ([196-]-2012); Academic work and instruction records (1927, [196-]-2005); Events and travel records (1965- 2013); Professional service and activities records ([ca. 1961]-2013); Residency records (1981-2007); and Personal records ([196-?]-[199-?]).

Fonds consists of records made, received, and collected by Patrick McTaggart-Cowan in both his personal and professional life. Records document McTaggart-Cowan's work in Newfoundland both before and during W.W.II, his time with the Meteorological Service of Canada, as President of Simon Fraser University, as head of the Science Council, as head of Task Force Operation Oil and his activities after he retired. Also includes personal records relating to family, education, friends, and personal interests.

Includes autobiographical records, correspondence, diaries, journals, scrapbooks, notepads, financial records, speeches, publications, photographs, and artifacts.

Fonds consists of correspondence, research, notes, written works, newspaper clippings and other records accumulated by Shackleton over her lifetime. These include records relating to her career as a writer, editor and journalist, her political activities, her education, research, travels abroad and those records relating to her professional and personal relationships within organizations and with acquaintances, friends and family members. Records have been arranged into the following seven series: Writing records ([194-]-2001); Research and reference files ([196-]-1985); Education and employment records (1931-[ca. 1992]); Political records (1944-1979); Professional organization records (1983-2001); Personal subject files ([19--]-2001); and Travel souvenirs, notes, and ephemera ([196-?]-1995).

The fonds consists of minutes of the association from 1932 to 1974. The minutes document the decisions and activities of the association including elections, rules for competitions, organizing dances, fundraisers, competitions, and the annual gatherings. Minutes for March 1935 to early January, 1939 are missing.

The fonds consists of correspondence, manuscripts, typescripts of radio addresses, etc.

Fonds consists of records relating to the writing and publication of novels written by June Skinner under the pen names of Rohan O'Grady, and A. Carleon. These include original manuscripts, notes on works in progress, memorabilia, promotional material, rejection letters, grant applications, photographs, scrapbooks, and correspondence.

The fonds has been arranged into the following series: Manuscripts (1936-[1992?]); Contracts (1960-1998); Correspondence ([1949?]-2000); Research (1965-[197-?]); Promotional material and reviews (1961-1974); Personal (1947-[196-?]); and Finance (1941-1992).

The fonds consists of sheet music, pipe band directories, paintings, photographs and other material.

The fonds consists of letters from Zukofsky to the poet Cid Corman. The fonds also contains four letters to the poet Walter Lowenfels.

The fonds consists of correspondence, notebooks, and manuscripts of Betty Lambert relating to her career as a writer and a university professor.

Fonds consists of moving images, sound recordings, and textual records relating to Arthur Erickson, his achievements, his travels, and his friends and family. Moving images include documentaries; exhibitions; TV programs; Architectural Institute of America meetings; artistic films; and home movies documenting Erickson's travels and family life. Note that a number of the films are duplicates stored on different mediums (e.g. Betacam, U-matic, and VHS). Sound recordings include radio interviews, lecture series, news documentaries, movie soundtracks, and a soundtrack for the Architectural Institute of America awards ceremony. Textual records include two books and two pamphlets.

Fonds consists of records relating to the academic and professional life of Iris Garland, and in part to her personal life. Activities, topics, and events documented include Garland’s establishment of SFU’s dance program; course development and instruction, including early telelearning education; independent and university choreography work; university and dance community service; presentations and writing; education and employment; and some of her early life. Records include notes, course syllabi, copies of clippings and reviews, performance programmes, reports, proposals, publications, correspondence, photographic materials, and sound and moving image recordings.

This fonds contains writings, notebooks, scores, computer software, photographic materials, audio and video recordings, two synthesizers, a computer and other material relating to the life experiences and creative output of Martin Bartlett. Most of the material dates from Bartlett’s active work life from 1965-1993, although there is some information from his early life, 1940-1965. The contents of the fonds have been divided into 11 distinct series representing different aspects of his life. One series (9: Compositions) has been divided into three sub-series determined by the type of material (scores, computer programs, and recordings).

The fonds consists of correspondence, manuscripts, teaching papers, personal and financial records, material pertaining to the Vancouver Poetry Centre, photographs, audiotapes, ephemera, etc.

The fonds consists of a journal of Carnie's experience in Canadian Armed Forces in World War II. Includes photographs, medals, etc.

Fonds consists of records related to Myron Kuzych's case against Bill White, then leader of the Marine Workers and Boilermakers Union. Records include correspondence, notes, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, transcripts and legal documents from the union, the BC Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the Privy Council.

The collection consists of correspondence written by Ezra Pound while in St. Elizabeth's Hospital to Denis Goacher, a British writer, concerning publishing projects and publicity schemes to secure Pound's release (1952-1957), to Pound's long-time friends Wyndham Lewis and Agnes Bedford (1946-1959), and to Willis Hawley, a sinologist, concerning linguistic and technical details involved with the publication of "Confucius: The Great Digest and Unwobbling Pivot" (1951). Some of the correspondence to Hawley was written by Dorothy Pound and James Laughlin.

Fonds consists of records reflecting the academic and personal life of Douglas Cole. The correspondence series consists primarily of the personal views of Dr. Cole on matters of historical scholarship, university affairs and his own career as a professor. A few letters were made or received by Dr. Cole in his capacity as a University employee performing his official duties –– for example, marking students' work and providing reference letters. Fonds also includes some unpublished articles, conference papers, research notes and lectures.

The fonds consists of correspondence from Cid Corman to Gael Turnbull; rejections from Poetry, Tiger's Eye, and Howard Griffin; and correspondence with Robert Singer.

Fonds consists of records made and received by Ron Baker in his roles as academic planner, and charter faculty member, as well as additional materials relating to SFU's history. Includes personal and professional correspondence, reports, reference materials, a memoir by Baker about the early history of SFU, and other documents.

Fonds consists of records relating to the personal, political, and academic life of Hari P. Sharma. Activities, topics, and events documented include community activism for human rights and social justice of minorities and underrepresented groups; academic conference attendance and presentations; Sharma's research, writing, photography, and publications; his social life and relationships; and his death and memorial.
