Liaison - government - municipal records

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to TechBC's co-operation and liaison activities with various municipal governments, particularly the City of Surrey and the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Activities, events and topics documented include location proposals for the University and its eventual situation in Surrey, correspondence and meetings with the City of Surrey Council, meetings between TechBC and various community groups in Surrey, and TechBC's involvement in establishing community and economic development plans for the City of Surrey. Records include correspondence; minutes; reports; booklets, brochures and other promotional material; newspaper articles; and notes.

The Making of Robert E. Lee files

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to Fellman's book, The Making of Robert E. Lee (New York: Random House, 2000). Records include a digital copy of the manuscript (file 1), and paper files containing book publicity materials and a book review.

British Columbia

This sub-sub-series contains material related to forestry industry in British Columbia, specifically including records related to the following companies: Slocan Forest Products, Canfor, Omineca, and Celgar pulp mills. Many records relate to the forest management policies, logging quotas and statistics as well as legislation establishing the Allowable Annual Cuts. Some documents discuss the British Columbia situation in general and some discuss the specific geographic regions, such as Kootenays Vancouver Island, Northeast BC, etc. as well as specific forestry issues, such as old growth logging, timber supply and sales. It contains reports, proposal and plans, analysis, papers, articles, regulations, maps, correspondence, clippings, newsletters, notes, etc. Some records document Indigenous peoples’ situation in relation to land use and industrial activities.

World

This sub-sub-series contains records related to forest ecosystems, forest management and forestry industry world-wide and some with focus on specific countries, such like Japan, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, India, and Brazil. Some records related to specific types of forest such as mangroves and boreal forests and some relate to timber supply and trade. This sub-sub-series contains reports, publications, articles and some correspondence.

Saskatchewan

This sub-sub-series contains material related to forestry industry and forest situation in Saskatchewan, including forest management plans. This sub-sub-series contains several images of forest cuts and Meadow Lake protest. Some records document Indigenous peoples’ situation in relation to land use and industrial activities, including protest against deforestation. It contains reports, clippings, newsletters, data sheets, correspondence, photographs, and maps.

2000 GCBF working files

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the planning and organization of the 2000 Great Canadian Beer Festival (GCBF) in Victoria. It took place on the weekend of December 1-2, 2000 and was held at the Victoria Conference Centre. For record types, see parent sub-series description.

Publications

Sub-sub-series consists primarily of photocopied material from the Sun, the Province, the Peak, the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) Bulletin, and other publications relating to the development of SFU. Subjects, events and activities documented include post-secondary education in the 1960s; student activism; Chancellor Gordon Shrum; the development and administration of SFU; post-secondary educational systems; faculty-administration relations; the Board of Governors; the CAUT Censure; the PSA affair; the Shell service station dispute; and the presidency of Kenneth Strand. Records include journal and magazine articles; newspaper clippings; reports and book excerpts.

Archives / Freedom of Information

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the University Archivist / Information and Privacy Coordinator during the period when the University Archives reported to the Dean of Student Services. The correspondence primarily deals with matters relating to the Archives' administration of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) Act. Activities and topics documented include the processing of individual access to information requests, policy development, access and privacy advice, and the provincial Information and Privacy Commissioner's site visit to SFU in 1997. Records include correspondence, reference material relating to FOIPP, advice, access decision letters, and the submission of the University Presidents' Council (TUPC) to the Special Committee of the BC Legislative Assembly reviewing the FOIPP Act (1998).

Academic Computing Services - general

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the Director of Academic Computing Services (ACS). Since its inception in 1991, ACS has remained within the reporting portfolio of the VP Academic. Activities and topics documented in the correspondence include operations of the SFU Microcomputer Store, including its reorganization in 1992-93; policy development and stategic planning for IT services, including the review of ACS and Operations and Technical Support (OTS) in 1998; and systems upgrade planning. Records include correspondence, agreements, strategic plans and other planning documents, and reports.

President's Office - general

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the VP Academic's interaction with the President's Office. Activities and topics documented include the Vice-President's reporting relationship to the President (meetings, advice, reports); inter-university cooperation, government liaison and international activities involving both Offices; university ceremonies and fundraising; the President's investigations of complaints; policy development, including the creation of a harassment policy; government funding, the budget crisis of 1985 and the reorganization of the faculties with the dissolution of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies. Records include correspondence, minutes, legal advice, press releases, and university planning documents and mission statements.
