Typeface design

Series consists of material related to Rimmer’s design and production of typefaces for both the Rimmer Type Foundry and the Lanston Type Company. Records include preliminary sketches, drawings in ink and pencil, transparencies, samples, digital print-outs, electronic files, master patterns, specimen castings, matrices, lead working patterns, and cast metal sorts. Some files contain notes and instructions for modification, and some include explanatory comments written by Rimmer. Electronic files were created by Rimmer on a Macintosh computer using the typeface design software IKARUS and saved to 3.5" floppy disks and compact discs.

Broadsides

Series consists of the archive copies of broadsides produced by Mother Tongue Press.

Production files

Series consists of records relating to the physical production of books and broadsides. Activities documented include book design, proof-reading, and printing. Records include correspondence, contracts and agreements, mock-ups, photographs, negatives, and purchase orders.

Organization and administration files

Series consists of records relating to the internal organization of Mother Tongue Press. Activities, events and topics documented include workshops, book launches, and paper and other printing equipment suppliers. Records include correspondence, photographs, flyers, agreements, and a notebook.

Broadsides and posters

Series consists of various broadsides and posters designed by Bringhurst. Materials include broadsides printed with page proofs for the book "The Surface of Meaning: Books and Book Design in Canada," advertisements for lectures and readings, type specimens, and poems and other publications by both Bringhurst and others.

Manuscripts

Series consists of manuscripts from 2 works, "A Guide to the Native Literatures of North America," and "Women in Native American Literature," both unpublished at the time of donation.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence to and from Bringhurst, arising from personal and professional activities. Sub-series include correspondence with publishers; general outbound correspondence; general inbound correspondence; and inbound correspondence sorted by name.

Chronological files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Bringhurst's various professional activities. Such activities include writing, editorial work, his role as judge for various literary and typographic prizes, and speaking engagements at numerous conferences, festivals, and other events around the world. Records include drafts of talks and written works such as essays and books, notes and research related to talks and writings, page proofs, correspondence with event organizers, travel tickets and itineraries, and newspaper articles, brochures, conferences programs and other ephemera documenting events he participated in.

Personal records

Series consists of personal records from Bringhurst and his immediate family. Personal records from his parents include letters between the two, as well as official records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. Materials arising from Bringhurst's personal activities include passports and numerous daybooks, dating from 2000-2013.

Biographical material

Series consists of biographical materials compiled in 2013, including a bibliography of Bringhurst's publications, and a timeline outlining major life events and works.

Posters

This sub-series contains 12 campaign posters, leadership posters and party logo banners, and 1 map of British Columbia electoral districts used in 1986 provincial election campaign. The campaign posters feature: Bill Vander Zalm, Bill Bennett, Rita Johnson and Nick Loenen. The Leader’s posters were used both at constituency association events, and also showed prominently in the campaign office. Party logo banners were used at constituency association events and other party gatherings and the campaign office.

Red Bait: Struggles of a Mine Local

Series consists of record relating to Braid's work co-authoring (along with Al King) the book Red Bait: Struggles of a Mine Local. Series includes transcripts of interviews with Al and Lillian King, drafts, edits and comments to the manuscript by various reviewers, reviews, and Al King's obituary and associated notes.

A Well-mannered Storm: the Glenn Gould Poems

Series consists of records relating to writing the poems about Glenn Gould and his music's affect on her, which occurred just as Braid found out she had gone deaf in one ear. Records include drafts, research on composers and composition, correspondence, book launch records, and reviews.

Series consists of records relating to Braid's writing Emily Carr: Rebel Artist, a book for young readers on the famous Canadian artist. Records include drafts, correspondence, and research.

Inward to the Bones: Georgia Okeeffe's Journey with Emily Carr

Fonds consists of records relating to Braid's work writing poems written from the perspectives of Georgia Okeeffe and Emily Carr. Originally entitled The String Bean and the Pea as her thesis submission for a Master of Fine Arts at UBC, the work was later retitled Inward from the Bones. Records include notes, drafts, comments from Sandy Shreve, Sharon Fowler and George McWhirter.

In fine form: the Canadian Book of Form Poetry

Series consists of records relating to Braid's work on co-editing, along with Sandy Shreve, a publication on Canadian form poetry. Records include notes and contributions by form type, correspondence with writers, including PK Page, and drafts.

Eating fire

Series consists of sound recordings of interviews undertaken by Michael Riordon for Eating Fire: Family Life on the Queer Side (Between the Lines, 2001). Interviews were undertaken across Canada.

Series consists of sound recordings of interviews undertaken by Michael Riordon for Out Our Way: Gay and Lesbian Life in the Country (Between the Lines, 1996). Interviews were undertaken across Canada. Textual records consist of a copy of Riordon’s log and notes about the tapes and interviews.
