James W. Wilson was a Professor of Geography at SFU, who had served as the first executive director of the Lower Mainland Regional Planning Board and a relocation planner for the Columbia River Power Project in B.C.

Collection consists of records and publications collected by James W. Wilson concerning the work of the Lower Mainland Regional Planning Board. Also includes materials about the resettlement project that B.C. Hydro carried out during the Columbia River Project. The fonds consists of records created, received and collected by the Port Coquitlam Area Women's Centre in carrying out their objectives. Records reflect the administration and organization of the centre; financial arrangements and funding; projects, programs and activities the centre is involved with; its relationship with other feminist organizations; and publications. Includes constitution, by-laws, minutes of general meetings, minutes of steering committee meetings, membership lists, reports, financial records, correspondence, and publications.

The collection offers insight into the imprisonment of the “Sons of Freedom” between 1932 and 1934 at Piers Island Penitentiary. The “Sons of Freedom” Doukhobors began as a small, radical movement to reinvigorate the faith, restore traditional Doukhobor values, and protest the sale of land, education, citizenship and registration of vital statistics. They would achieve infamy through civil disobedience, nude marches, and burnings. In 1932, over 600 Sons of Freedom protestors were convicted of public nudity. As B.C. Penitentiary was unable to handle such a rise in inmate population, a satellite prison under the authority of B.C. Penitentiary was constructed on Piers Island to house these prisoners. The records document how the prison was set up and run and the problems that the federal prison system encountered regarding both staff and prisoners. The correspondence and telegrams shed light on the internal discussions of senior officials concerning the management of the prison and its prisoners.
Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, telegrams, and other textual records pertaining to the Piers Island Penitentiary created or accumulated by H. W. Cooper during his career as the warden of B.C. Penitentiaries. The fonds also contains photographs which were all taken at Piers Island. The textual records predominantly consist of letters to and from H. W. Cooper regarding the penitentiary, staff, and prisoners. The fonds consists of research material acquired by Peter Poole in the course of preparing his thesis and an earlier essay on the solidarity movement. The fonds includes taped interviews of trade union leaders, solidarity movement leaders, community activists, and legal counsel. Twenty-six of the interviews are transcribed. The fonds also includes newspapers and newsclippings, essays, publications, flyers, research notes, ephemera, a chronology of the solidarity movement, and a copy of Peter Poole's thesis.

Fonds consists of records created or received by the Peak Publications Society primarily in the course of publishing The Peak, the student newspaper of Simon Fraser University. Activities and topics documented include the establishment and organization of the Peak Publications Society; developing sources of funding; the production of the newspaper, including the taking of photographs required to illustrate stories published; the hiring and duties of Peak staff members; and other publishing ventures of the Peak Publications Society. Includes a complete run of The Peak newspaper from 1965 and other published material such as the Terminal City Express, The Dic (student course guide), and The Peak Handbook. Also includes certification of incorporation, constitution, agendas, minutes, financial records, correspondence, and other documents, as well as contact sheets, prints, negatives, and microfilm reels.

Evelyn Woods was a mature student who entered the University to complete a teaching certificate. She befriended early staff members of The Peak student newspaper and often brought them cakes and other treats. In return, when she completed her studies in 1968, Peak staffers gave her a scrapbook as a souvenir.

Collection consists of one scrapbook of news clippings, and selected issues of The Tartan, SF View, The Peak and other memorabilia.

Peter Stursberg was a journalist who interviewed Pauline Jewett for his book on Lester B. Pearson. Dr. Jewett was President of SFU from 1974 to 1978. She was a former university professor and a member of Parliament.
