"Four Modernist Women" course development records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Daphne Marlatt's English course "Four Modernist Women," taught at the University of Victoria and the University of Saskatchewan. Records include articles, lecture notes, syllabi, and other course material.

"Georgia Grape"

The staff from the former Georgia Striaght in 1972 created the Georgia Grape (no. 1 Jan. 20-27, 1972) a new free press paper as counter point to the Georgia Straight. For a list of contributing members, see page 6 of Jan 20-27, 1972 issue of the Georgia Grape. The staff members set up the Georgia Grape on account they were not happy with management and business of the Georgia Straight. Copies include: no. 1 Jan. 20-27, 1972, no.8 Mar. 8-15, 1972 and no. 10 March 22-9, 1972.The Georgia Grape is a collective newspaper representing free press. It acted as rebuke/retort to the the way the Georgia Straight was being run.

"Georgia Straight" (1)

Consists of a copy of the Georgia Straight from 1967 volume 1 no.1 May 5-18, 1967. Ths is the first issue of the Georgia Straight. It was cooperatively produced paper by artists, poets and writers. Pierre Coupey was the co-ordinating editor. For a list of contributor editors, see the page 4 (the list includes: Peter Hlookoff, Harry Rankin, Rick Kitaeff, Tony Grinkus, Milton Acorn, Leonard Minksy...Stan Persky etc. The paper has yellowed with some tearing where the paper has been creased. Marty Flomen's home address is stated on separate sheet of paper (privacy concern). Hand bill stating information about the Georgia Straight's license to operate as free press paper, newspaper article about the Georgia Straight and the loss of its business license, statement issued by the Georgia Straight and photocopies of a protest announcement and newspaper article.
