Articles, notes, correspondence

This sub-series contains various records created and collected by Eli Popoff and Iskra staff such as notes, drafts of articles and issues of Iskra as well as material such as articles, clippings, notes and data collected as a research resource for the Iskra content. It contains both published and unpublished material.

Partial manuscripts, drafts, and notes

This sub-series, consisting primarily of loose handwritten pages, consists of draft versions of poems or miscellaneous thoughts in draft form. This represents the bulk of the fonds, and was received in an unorganized state. There is next to no order between files, many of which will contain iterations of the same work.

Key people correspondence and documents

This sub-series consists of documents relating to the specific individuals within the Doukhobor community and the CCBRD as well as individuals outside of the Doukhobor community, whose work and activity closely relate to the CCBRD operations, ideology, and legal and financial matters. Considerable amount of record in this subseries is related to Steve Lapshinoff’s activity as executive member of the Christian Community and Brotherhood of the Reformed Doukhobors and Fraternal Council. The records contain his writings and translations, personal and business correspondence, research records, his trial, pardon and traveling records. Many records reflect his relationship with Stefan Sorokin and Ann Sorokin, and Sons of Freedom as well as Lapshinoff’s involvement in the Kootenay Committee on Intergroup Relations and and his effort in recording of the Doukhobor history. This sub-series includes correspondence, writings, notes, statements, reports, commentaries, questionnaires, newspaper clippings, text of songs and other less specific documents.

Series consists of the chapbooks published by No press from 2005 to 2015. Individual publications are listed in the attached pdf bibliography.

General documents

This sub-series consists of various documents that relate to the CCBRD operations and organizational agenda as well as to the Doukhobor community beliefs, ideology and history. Some documents in this sub-series focus on particular individuals, other relate to the whole community or specific organizations within the community, such as the USCC, the Sons of Freedom, the CCUB and K.I.C.R. This sub-series includes index of articles written about the Doukhobors between 1920s and 1980s.

Literary works by other authors

Sub-series consists of correspondence from writers and poets, postcards, invitations, greeting cards, exhibition broadsides, newspaper clippings, poems, photographs, literary/poetry publications, chapbooks & zines, an audio tape consisting of five poems, ephemera, drafts & manuscripts, a McLean’s article featuring BC writers and poets, June 1973, and a series of postcards created by Coach House Press. Also included in the sub-series are correspondence and sample pages for One More Once: For Pierre Coupey’s 70th, a festschrift to honor Pierre Coupey’s dedication to art and literature on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2012.

Coupey corresponded with a variety of writers and poets with whom he was friends. Some of the writers and poets featured in this sub-series include Peter Culley, Barry McKinnon, Zonko (Bill Little), Rick Jones, Brian Fawcett, Steve Cummings, Warren Stevensen, John Newlove, bp Nichol, Henri Chopin, Duncan McNaughton, Rick Kitaeff, Patrick Lane, Sharon Thesen, George Stanley, Bill Schermbrucker, Michael Ondaatje, Esther Mills, John Pass, Audrey Thomas, Margo Foote, Fielding Dawson, Colin Browne, Louis Dudek, Meredith Quartermain, Lenore Kandel, Roy Kiyooka, Jamie Reid, Ryan Knighton, Daphne Marlatt, David Phillips, Victoria Walker and George Bowering, among others.

Sub-series contains drafts and accompanying correspondence about articles, talks and essays written by Beaulieu.

Promotional materials and reviews

Series consists of records relating to the promotion of the “Drawing the Line” exhibition, as well as articles about and reviews of the show. Records include pamphlets, promotional postcards, magazines, and newspaper clippings. Contains photocopied reproductions of several articles and reviews.

Talks

Subseries consists of drafts of talks Peter Culley gave and recordings of poetry readings by Peter Culley.

Writings by students

Sub-series contains works written and/or produced by students of Derek Beaulieu, from institutions such as Alberta College of Art & Design, Henry Wise Wood Senior High School and the Writers Guild of Alberta. These publications reflect Beaulieu’s teaching and his approach to independent publishing.

Sub-series consists of bound notebooks that contain notes and drafts of poetry, essays, film reviews, and talks.

Series consists of proofs, correspondence and manuscript submissions for chapbooks published by No press.

Academic research and writings

Sub-series contains research and project files for Derek Beaulieu’s MA thesis on the TISH poets, and annotated drafts of his PhD dissertation on concrete poetry and conceptual writing.
