Writings and related records

File consists of records related to the writing and editorial activities of Gladys Maria Hindmarch. The majority of the records document work on Hindmarch's 1988 book "The Watery Part of the World," with a smaller number of records relating to her other books and her works of short prose. Series also includes records relating to her editorial work for a proposed women's magazine. Records include drafts, manuscripts, notes, correspondence, and research records.

Series has been divided into the following two sub-series: "The watery part of the world records" (1964-1988) and "General writings and related records" (1960-1991).

[Boat stories draft - sent by Peak Publications Society]

File consists of a carbon paper copy of untitled typescript prose with handwritten editorial notes. The draft was contained in a manila envelope addressed to “The Andsteins” (Cliff Andstein and Gladys Hindmarch), as bears a return address from the Peak Publications Society at Simon Fraser University.

[Boat stories - drafts]

File consists of typescript drafts of various stories relating to the project then known as “Boat Stories.” Some of the drafts are reproductions of drafts from the 1960s, while others appear to be written later. The pages of these drafts contain page numbers, although several pages are missing. Stories included among these drafts include “You Wouldn’t Want to,” “Don’t Get Lost” (also known as Ucluelet), “The Coast I Like Best,” “Where They Are” (also known as “The Hall”), “A Single Scrambled” (also known as “Waking”), “Nothing is Simple” (also known as “Supper”), “Tulips,” “Something’s Going On” (also known as “Mustard”), “How it Feels” (also known as “Wales”), “Japan,” and “Doing Nothing is an Act Also.”
