Brewery files: Nanaimo and North Vancouver Island

Sub-series consists of research materials relating to individual breweries established in Nanaimo and Cumberland in the 19th and early 20th centuries. For record types, see the Scope and content note in the parent series description (F-316-3). The sub-series include photocopies of business records (prospectus, agreements) relating to the Empire Brewery (file 3).

Brewery files: Interior, Thompson-Okanagan

Sub-series consists of research materials relating to individual breweries established in the Thompson and Okanagan regions of British Columbia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. For record types, see the Scope and content note in the parent series description (F-316-3). The sub-series includes a photocopy of the labour agreement between the Caribou Brewing Company and the Brewery Workers Union, Local 387 (1960; file 12); and a share certificate for the Phoenix Brewing Company (file 11).

Beer reference books and histories

Sub-series consists of Rowling's collection of beer reference and brewing history books. Items arranged alphabetically by author. Copies of the books by Frank Appleton and Glen Mofford are signed by the author.

Media literacy kits and associated records

Sub-series contains paper and born-digital records related to the Adbusters Media Literacy Kit, Media Empowerment Kit, and the implementation of media literacy workshops. Paper records include the Adbusters Media Lit Kit (2010), as well as two photocopies of a media literacy workshop supplement. Born-digital records include advertisement graphics, flyers, workshop powerpoint presentation templates (in PDF format), workshop notes, media lit kit assembly how-to guides, correspondence, contact lists, draft email templates, order forms, page revisions, Adbusters spoof ads, and a digital copy of a Media Empowerment DVD featuring Adbusters' TV spots.

Born-digital copies of the Adbusters Media Literacy Kit (2006), Adbusters Media Empowerment Kit (2007), Adbusters Media Lit Kit (2010), and the Adbusters Media Empowerment Kit (2012) are also included.

Sub-series consists of research materials relating to breweries established in Kootenays in the 19th and early 20th centuries. For record types, see the Scope and content note in the parent series description (F-316-3). The sub-series include vol. 2 of Leo Hryhoruk's Breweries of Rossland, 1895-1918 (file 10).

The Peak: issues

Sub-series consists of issues of The Peak student newspaper. Includes a complete set of hardcopy bound volumes and two microfilm copies (positive and negative film). The Peak publishes 13 issues each semester, starting a new volume with each semester. The microfilm sets include The Tartan and SF View, and begin with The Peak volume 1 (1965) and end with volume 98 (April 1998). The bound volumes of paper hardcopies continue past this date and regularly accrue.

The Tartan magazine: issues

Sub-series consists of issues of The Tartan magazine. The Peak Publications Society published the first issue in the fall of 2015 to celebrate SFU's 50th anniversary and in hopes of it becoming a regular publication under the former student newspaper's title. Whereas The Peak newspaper's focus is primarily on news reporting, The Tartan is intended to be a dedicated setting for fiction, poetry, artwork, photography, and long-form features about SFU. As of the second issue (spring 2016), the magazine will be published bi-annually.

Promotional materials

Sub-series consists of analogue and born-digital records created by Adbusters Media Foundation while promoting Blackspot sneakers and boots. Paper and analogue records include pamphlets, a "Blackspot manifesto," stickers, promotional photographs, and shareholder certificates. Born-digital records include advertisement graphics, promotional photographs, posters, coupons, stickers, gift cards, labels, shareholder certificates, T-shirt mockups, catalogues, promotional comics, and website mockups.

CAMRA membership records

Sub-series consists of records relating to the management of CAMRA Victoria / CAMRA BC membership. Records includes application form templates, membership databases and lists. Records exist only in digital form. File formats are predominantly Excel (xls, xlsx) and Word (doc, docx), with some pdf documents. There are also three Microsoft Access database files, dating to around 2003. The membership lists mainly cover the years 1996-2005, with just one list for a later date (2016).

Brewery files: craft breweries

Sub-series consists of research materials and information relating to the emergence of craft brewing in the 1980s and beyond. The focus is on BC craft breweries, but includes some materials relating to the rest of Canada and to the United States. Records include Evans' notes and working papers; copies of newspaper and magazine articles; brewery news releases, brochures and marketing materials. Files are arranged alphabetically.

No press publications

Series consists of the chapbooks published by No press from 2005 to 2015. Individual publications are listed in the attached pdf bibliography.

Sub-series consists of Rowling's collection of beer and brewery guidebooks. Items arranged alphabetically by author. Copies of the books by Leo Buijs, Jack Erickson, Michael Jackson and Joe Wiebe are signed by the author.

General documents

This sub-series consists of various documents that relate to the CCBRD operations and organizational agenda as well as to the Doukhobor community beliefs, ideology and history. Some documents in this sub-series focus on particular individuals, other relate to the whole community or specific organizations within the community, such as the USCC, the Sons of Freedom, the CCUB and K.I.C.R. This sub-series includes index of articles written about the Doukhobors between 1920s and 1980s.

Brewery files: provincial consortiums and national brewers

Sub-series consists of research materials relating to consortiums of BC breweries and activities and acquisitions in BC by national Canadian breweries in the 20th century. For record types, see the Scope and content note in the parent series description (F-316-3).

The sub-series include photocopies of agreements and reports of the Amalgamated Brewers Agency of BC (file 1); indentures and memoranda of agreement relating to the BC Brewers Ltd. (file 3); a copy of the 1948 Annual Report for the Brewers and Distillers of Vancouver (file 4); and a copy of the Fall 1977 Carling O'Keefe Vancouver Employees Review (file 4).

Files are arranged alphabetically by brewery or consortium.

Literary works by other authors

Sub-series consists of correspondence from writers and poets, postcards, invitations, greeting cards, exhibition broadsides, newspaper clippings, poems, photographs, literary/poetry publications, chapbooks & zines, an audio tape consisting of five poems, ephemera, drafts & manuscripts, a McLean’s article featuring BC writers and poets, June 1973, and a series of postcards created by Coach House Press. Also included in the sub-series are correspondence and sample pages for One More Once: For Pierre Coupey’s 70th, a festschrift to honor Pierre Coupey’s dedication to art and literature on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2012.

Coupey corresponded with a variety of writers and poets with whom he was friends. Some of the writers and poets featured in this sub-series include Peter Culley, Barry McKinnon, Zonko (Bill Little), Rick Jones, Brian Fawcett, Steve Cummings, Warren Stevensen, John Newlove, bp Nichol, Henri Chopin, Duncan McNaughton, Rick Kitaeff, Patrick Lane, Sharon Thesen, George Stanley, Bill Schermbrucker, Michael Ondaatje, Esther Mills, John Pass, Audrey Thomas, Margo Foote, Fielding Dawson, Colin Browne, Louis Dudek, Meredith Quartermain, Lenore Kandel, Roy Kiyooka, Jamie Reid, Ryan Knighton, Daphne Marlatt, David Phillips, Victoria Walker and George Bowering, among others.

Sub-series contains drafts and accompanying correspondence about articles, talks and essays written by Beaulieu.

Promotional materials and reviews

Series consists of records relating to the promotion of the “Drawing the Line” exhibition, as well as articles about and reviews of the show. Records include pamphlets, promotional postcards, magazines, and newspaper clippings. Contains photocopied reproductions of several articles and reviews.

Financial records

Sub-series contains financial records of Adbusters Media Foundation. These records include annual reports, budgets, income statements, financial summaries, balance sheets, payment schedules, tax forms, monthly sales reports, sales analytics, and invoices. Records largely pertain to the operational costs of Adbusters Media Foundation in general, but include some specific financial records associated with the Blackspot campaign.
