Director of University Services

Series consists of records relating to Stephen Stratton's work as Director of University Services. Activities documented include new student orientation; wheelchair students on campus; participation on the Deans Fees Committee; projects including visits to local high schools and student placement; a proposal for integration of Financial Aid and the Resources Office; studies on student attrition and withdrawals; and liaison with student services including Day Care, Health Services, Counselling, and the Simon Fraser Student Society. Records include correspondence and working papers, reports, minutes and statistics.

Student Services

Sub-series consists of the Associate Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from Student Services. Although Student Services did not move to the VP Academic's reporting portfolio until 1994, the AVP Academic maintained a correspondence with the Director and with the various units comprising Student Services, including Athletics and Recreation, Health Services, the Day Care Centre, and Residence and Housing. The AVP Academic's Office also filed here correspondence with or relating to the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS). Records consists predominantly of correspondence, with some reports.

Daycare Centre

Sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of the Daycare Centre and the Vice-President's correspondence with staff and the university community regarding personnel issues, polices and procedures, construction of the Daycare Centre, and operation of Nanitsh, Kahpoo, and Pink daycare centres; budgets, funding proposals and cashbooks; daycare incorporation documents; minutes of the Burnaby Mountain Day Care Society; and reports on the history of daycare on campus. Records include correspondence and working papers, agendas and minutes, reports, financial statements, and publications.

Daycare

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the establishment and administration of a Daycare on campus and includes correspondence regarding a brief prepared by the Students' Council Day Nursery Committee, a proposal for the operation of a campus day care centre by the Simon Fraser Co-operative Family, and insurance coverage for the child care centre. Records include correspondence, an agenda, legal papers and a report.

Daycare Centre

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of the Daycare Centre and its individual childcare programs on campus including Morningside, Malaika, Crackers, Pink, Los Ninos, Kahpoo, and Nanitsh. Records include correspondence with the Daycare Society, parents, the university community, external organizations, and the provincial government; policies and procedures; incorporation documents; budget proposals and monthly financial operating statements; development plans; and the report "The History of Day Care on Campus at Simon Fraser University" by Diane MacDonald. Records include correspondence and working papers, reports, financial statements, agendas and minutes, brochures, newsletters and other publications by the Daycare Centre.

The collection consists of material kept by Mary Wilson to document the evolution of child care at SFU. Collection includes letters, minutes, reports and other documents as well as a short history of early child care at the University in which Wilson explains the importance of each document in the collection.
