Audio-visual records

This series consists of audio-visual recordings of performances of Krestova Youth Choir during the EXPO 1986 as well as audio recordings of singing and Sorokin’s speeches during his visit to the Doukhobor villages in British Columbia in 1954.

This file contains correspondence, lists, meeting minutes, reports, declaration, clippings, publications, and other various documents relating to the CCBRD members and their community. Correspondents includes: J. Lebedoff, F. Lebedoff, A. J. A. Bell, and A. Reibin.

Correspondence

This series consists of correspondence of Stephan Sorokin in capacity as the leader of the CCBRD and a leader/spokesperson of the Sons of Freedom with various individuals of within the Doukhobor community and outside of it, including representatives of the Canadian government and other organizations. This series contains incoming and outgoing correspondence. Many of the letters are with or regarding of the imprisoned members of the Reformed Doukhobors community. Besides letters, telegrams, and open letters, the files in this series contain other records including Sorokin addresses to community, resolution, clippings, texts of poems, psalms and prayers, reports, meeting minutes of the Fraternal Council of CCBRD and other matters related to the CCBRD and the Sons of Freedom. Sorokin’s letters are sent from South America, mainly Montevideo, Uruguay.

Some of correspondents include: F. J. Mead, William Evans, Rankin, Dean & Munro, Joseph Podovinikoff, Walter Siegmeister, W. M. Moojelsky, A. Kolesnikov, I. I. Perepelkin, S. Tomilin, Petr Iliasov, Ivan Chernov, A. Reibin, Steve Lapshinoff, Joseph Ogloff, and Mikhail Chernenkoff.

Court records

This series consists of documents relating to libel court case initiated by Stefan Sorokin against Dennis Williams of Trail Times Limited in 1959. Sorokin was represented by Messrs Rankin and Dean Barristers and Solicitors. The records include transcripts of Examination for Discovery, Court of Appeal, related correspondence and documents.

[Draft of Sorokin’s book and related correspondence]

This file contains a draft of book written in 1940s by S. Sorokin under the pseudonym Pantes Kiroson titled: Three days and three nights of life beyond the grave. This file also contains related correspondence and a sample draft of Through hell, to heaven, and back, a book by Vassily Solitsin which Sorokin’s family claims to be based on Sorokin’s book, thus was violating the copyright. In the correspondence, Steve Lapshinoff, on behalf of Sorokin’s family, demands withdraw of fraudulent copies.

This series consists of general records relating to the Stephen Sorokin, the CCBRD and Sons of Freedom including clippings, issues of publications, forms and applications, scrapbook with photographs and maps, ship manifests and notes. Many of the records in this series relate to the potential Doukhobor emigration to South America.
