The fonds consists of textual records and other media created by Harry and Valerie Jerome, which reflect the various facets of Harry Jerome’s life, including academics, athletics, and community/national sports initiatives. While most of the records reflect Harry’s life, the fonds also includes records that pertain to Valerie Jerome’s life, namely her athletic and political career. In addition, a biographical manuscript, which is Valerie Jerome’s written iteration of the story of the Jerome family and Harry’s life, is included in the fonds. The fonds also includes records that were created by the Harry Jerome Commemorative Society and the Black Business and Professional Association’s Harry Jerome Awards. The Pacific Socialist Education Association’s Pacific Tribune Photograph Collection comprises over 40,000 35-mm images taken for the weekly Vancouver labour newspaper Pacific Tribune. The images cover a twenty-year period, from 1972 to 1992, one of the most active periods in British Columbia’s labour history.
Included in the collection are images from some of the most tumultuous events involving British Columbia’s labour movements:

• the province-wide campaign against insurance rate increases introduced by the new Social Credit government in 1976
• the opposition to federal wage controls that culminated in a one-day national work stoppage in 1976
• the historic Solidarity movement in 1983
• labour’s campaign — that also included a one-day work stoppage in 1987 — against government legislation that severely curtailed the right to organize unions and bargain collectively

The scrapbooks document the political landscape of British Columbia from 1968 to 1991, in particular the activities of the Social Credit party; events, initiatives, and causes in Vancouver and provincially; state visits; McCarthy's viewpoint on particular issues; her political and charitable activities; leadership campaigns; and her personal and political relationships. They also document McCarthy's most notable accomplishments, including bringing Expo '86 to Vancouver, establishing SkyTrain as a rapid transit system, driving the construction of the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, and the lighting of the Lions Gate Bridge. Includes correspondence with other politicians at the provincial, national and international level, including W.A.C. Bennett and Margaret Thatcher; her constituents, residents of British Columbia, and party members; and the business community.

The collection consists of photographic images and printed materials relating to the life and death of E. Pauline Johnson. Some of the material is associated with her sister, Evelyn Johnson, but the provenance and nature of compilation is largely unknown.

After immigrating to Canada following World War II, David Macaree (d. 1998) earned his M.A from UBC and PhD from the University of Washington. He joined the Department of English at UBC, his primary areas of interest being 18th-century literature (mostly Defoe) and English composition, and remained a faculty member until his retirement in 1985.

Mary Macaree (1922-2008) qualified as a teacher in Scotland and then as a librarian upon immigrating to Canada. She received her Bachelor of Library Science degree from UBC in 1963 and became that institution’s head librarian in 1968. She retired in 1985.

One of Mary’s hobbies included Scottish country dancing and she also took a philanthropic interest in the development of libraries and programs supporting Scottish culture and studies. She and her husband were avid hikers and proponents of the outdoors, together they authored two popular books “103 Hikes in Southwestern British Columbia” and “109 Walks in British Columbia's Lower Mainland”.

David passed away in 1998, and Mary in 2008.

The David Macaree sous-fonds is arranged into the following three series: Papers authored (1951-1986), Papers authored by others (1963-1998), and Robbie Burns research and associated notes (1961-1996).
