Arthur Erickson fonds

Fonds consists of moving images and textual records relating to Arthur Erickson, his achievements, and his travels. Moving images include documentaries; exhibitions; TV programs; Architectural Institute of America meetings; and home movies documenting Erickson's travels. Note that a number of the films are duplicates stored on different mediums (e.g. Betacam and U-matic). Textual records include books Eppich House II: The Story of an Arthur Erickson Masterwork by Greg Bellerby and Michelangelo Sabatino (2019), and Francisco Kripacz: Interior Design by Arthur Erickson (2015, published posthumously). Four pamphlets (two copies and two unique) titled "Simon Fraser University tour route" and "A Celebration of the Life and Work of Arthur Charles Erickson" are also included.

Includes a complete run of The Peak newspaper from 1965 and other published material such as the Terminal City Express, The Dic (student course guide), and The Peak Handbook. Also includes certification of incorporation, constitution, agendas, minutes, financial records, correspondence, and other documents, as well as contact sheets, prints, negatives, and microfilm reels.

Series consists analogue and digitized motion picture documentaries, exhibitions, TV programs, news reels, interviews, Architectural Institute of America meetings, and aerial footage. The subject of these motion pictures includes Erickson, the Erickson/Massey Architects firm, or specific buildings and designs by Erickson.

Note that a number of the motion pictures include duplicates stored on different mediums (e.g. Betacam and U-matic), so total item numbers do not correspond with total objects.

Travel films

Series consists of films created by Erickson during his travels to India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Japan. Subjects include local inhabitants, architecture, and wildlife.

Records also include interview transcriptions and copies of newspaper and magazine articles documenting the organization's achievements. The majority of the records of Sono Nis Press from 1968 to 1976 are at the National Library of Canada under the J. Michael Yates fonds. Since Sono Nis was taken over by Morriss Printing in 1976, all archival records have been retained. The archival records (1976 to approximately 1988) include financial records, editorial files, production files, and correspondence. All art work, design work, and printing plates for every book have been retained in the fonds along with two copies of each book published by Sono Nis Press.

Fonds consists primarily of incoming correspondence addressed to Hawthornthwaite in his capacity as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from his constituents and other residents of British Columbia. The fonds contains a file consisting of legislative bills, resolutions, and acts tabled during Hawthornthwaite's tenure in the Provincial Parliament and other records that Hawthornthwaite made or received in the course of his service to the people of Nanaimo, as well as published records of the legislative assembly of British Columbia for the years 1909 and 1910. The fonds also contains: a certificate for Hawthornthwaite's share in the Western Socialist Publishing Company which published The Western Clarion, the newspaper of the Socialist Party of British Columbia; a postcard depicting Joseph Mairs, one of Hawthornthwaite's contemporaries in the Socialist Party of Canada; and a copy of a book titled The changing order: A study of democracy, given to Hawthornthwaite by his friend Harry Sibble.
