File contains a timeline of Bringhurst's life and work from 1946-2013, a list entitled "Significant teachers," a reproduction of an article entitled "Hans-Lukas Teuber: A Tribute" from a 1994 issue of the journal "Cerebral Cortex," and a reproduction of an article entitled, "Hans-Lukas Teuber" from the National Academy of Science's periodical "Biographical Memoirs."

Personal records from his parents include letters between the two, as well as official records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. Materials arising from Bringhurst's personal activities include passports and numerous daybooks, dating from 2000-2013.

File consists of correspondence, receipts, and brochures related to the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival in Dawson City.

File consists of correspondence, a legal notice of bankruptcy, and a publication catalogue from Douglas & Mclntyre Publishing Group. Correspondence covers the company's bankruptcy, its new ownership, and the resolution of unpaid royalty statements.

Field guide resource list

File consists of manuscript pages from a draft of the book, "A Guide to the Native Literatures of North America," unpublished at the time of donation.

Broadsides and posters

Series consists of various broadsides and posters designed by Bringhurst. Materials include broadsides printed with page proofs for the book "The Surface of Meaning: Books and Book Design in Canada," advertisements for lectures and readings, type specimens, and poems and other publications by both Bringhurst and others.

Fonds consists of correspondence, manuscripts, notes, articles, and promotional materials created or accumulated by Robert Bringhurst over the course of his career as a typographer and writer. The majority of records were created in 2000 or later, as the donor had also donated records to Library and Archives Canada in the past.

The records include manuscripts of several of his major publications, as well as draft versions and speaking notes for many essays written and talks delivered throughout his career. Also included is correspondence with friends, publishers, and colleagues, translated editions of many of his books, and promotional materials such as posters and brochures for many conferences, festivals, and other events Bringhurst participated in. The fonds also contains some personal records, including birth, marriage, and death certificates from his immediate family. A timeline of major life events and activities has been included by the donor.

The records have been arranged into the following six series: Biographical material (2013); Personal records (1913-2013); Chronological files (1954-2013); Correspondence (1971-2013); Manuscripts (2013); and Broadsides and posters ([ca. 2000-2013]).

Chronological files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Bringhurst's various professional activities. Such activities include writing, editorial work, his role as judge for various literary and typographic prizes, and speaking engagements at numerous conferences, festivals, and other events around the world. Records include drafts of talks and written works such as essays and books, notes and research related to talks and writings, page proofs, correspondence with event organizers, travel tickets and itineraries, and newspaper articles, brochures, conferences programs and other ephemera documenting events he participated in.

Bangkok

Files consists of lecture text, notes, and brochures for the 2013 Granshan Design and Identity Conference and Festival on Non-Latin Typefaces, held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Nantes

File consists of notes, lecture text, correspondence, and event brochure for the 2013event "Atlantide: Festival es Littératures de Nantes" in Nantes, France.

Wake forest/Nov. 2013

File consists of airline itineraries, correspondence, and a schedule related to Bringhurst's November 2013 trip to North Carolina to lecture at Wake Forest University.
