Biographical history

Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1945, Keith Harrison studied at the University of British Columbia, where he took a creative writing course from Earle Birney; played for Canada's National Field Hockey team; and graduated with an Honours English degree in 1967. He moved to California, receiving an Master of Arts degree from Berkeley in 1968. Returning to Canada, he completed a Ph.D (Dean's Honours List, 1972) at McGill University, writing on the works of Malcolm Lowry. For nearly two decades he lived and worked in Montreal, teaching primarily at Dawson College. In 1991, Keith Harrison returned to British Columbia, and began teaching at Malaspina University-College, known as Vancouver Island University.

Harrison has written seven books of fiction (Dead Ends, After Six Days, Eyemouth, Crossing the Gulf, Furry Creek, Elliot & Me, and The Violinist and the Aunt Whose Head Was Squeezed) and published numerous scholarly articles on Canadian and British Columbian writers.

Custodial history

Records were in the custody of Keith Harrison prior to their acquisition by Simon Fraser University Library Special Collections and Rare Books in 2008.

Fonds consists of the literary papers of author Keith Harrison. Records include research materials, correspondence, manuscripts, reviews, working notes, and contracts.
