Rebecka Sheffield was born in Canada. She holds a BA (1998) in Women’s and Gender Studies and Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan and a MISt (2009) in Archives and Records Management and a PhD (2015) in Information Studies from the University of Toronto. She has given numerous presentations and published several academic articles on topics such as LGBTQ Archives & Heritage, Queer & Feminist Social Movements, and Sexual Diversity Studies.

Miki, Roy

Roy Akira Miki was born October 10, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Manitoba in 1964, a Master of Arts at Simon Fraser University in 1969, and a Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia in 1980. In the intervening years Miki married Slavia Knysh, the couple had two children, and Miki worked as a high school teacher and as a teaching assistant and sessional instructor at SFU. Miki was hired as an Assistant Professor at SFU in 1980, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1992, and became a full professor in 1993.

A prolific poet, essayist, and editor, Miki founded the literary journal West Coast Line. He has received many awards, grants, and honours for his literary achievements, including the 1991 Gabrielle Roy Prize for Canadian Criticism for his work as editor of A Record of Writing: An Annotated and Illustrated Bibliography of George Bowering; the 1997 Association of Asian American Studies Poetry Award for his work as editor of Pacific Windows: The Collected Poetry of Roy K. Kiyooka; and the 2002 Governor Generals Award for Poetry for Surrender.

Throughout the 1980s Miki was involved in the Japanese Canadian redress movement. Miki served as Chair of the Greater Vancouver Japanese Canadian Citizens Association Redress Committee. He also sat on the Council of the National Association of Japanese Canadians, and worked for that organization as National Redress Coordinator. Miki was additionally involved in the redress movement as a researcher, writer, and activist.

D.O.A.

D.O.A. is a political punk band from Vancouver, B.C., and an influential part of the hardcore punk movement that developed in the late seventies and early eighties. They released their first full length album in 1980, followed by sixteen other releases, most recently, 2015's Hard Rain Falling. Joe "Shithead" Keithley is the band's one remaining founding member. Past members include Chuck Biscuits, Randy Rampage, Dave Gregg, Dimwit, and Wimpy. Their slogan is "Talk minus Action equals Zero."

Wershler-Henry, Darren S. (Darren Sean)

Darren Wershler-Henry is a non-fiction writer, cultural critic and recovering poet. He has written widely on the shared concerns of literary theory and cultural politics, and his books include FREE as in speech and beer (2002) and The Iron Whim: A Fragmented History of Typewriting (2005). He is the co-author of the renowned Apostrophe Engine poetry programme (with Bill Kennedy) and holds the Concordia University Research Chair in Media and Contemporary Literature in Montreal. His books of poetry include NICHOLODEON: a book of lowerglyphs, and the tapeworm foundry, shortlisted for the Trillium Prize in 2000. He was senior editor of Coach House Books from 1997 to 2002.
