Policies and procedures

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the development, revision, interpretation, and reorganization of the university's academic policies and procedures, including appointment, faculty workload, and the harassment policy. Records include correspondence, reports, drafts, and policies.

Personal correspondence

Sub-sub-series consists of correspondence reflecting the personal and professional interests of the Vice-President, Academic as opposed to business correspondence arising from the duties of the office. The series begins with correspondence of the first acting Vice-Presidents (R.R. Haering and L. Srivastava), but primarily covers the tenure of Brian G. Wilson and includes his correspondence with colleagues, students, and professional bodies, and relating to his academic interests in astronomy. Records consists of correspondence and some essays and papers. After 1977, the file classification plan did not distinguish between "general" and "personal" correspondence; for the personal correspondence of Wilson's successor, see series F-200-2-1-1 "Vice-President, Academic - general."

Media and Public Relations

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from Media and Public Relations (called University News Services prior to 1988) during periods when this office either reported to the President or to a Vice-President that had no filing category in the file classification plan. Topics include search for a Director (1982), development of departmental programs and projects (Speakers' Bureau, SFU Ideas, research directory), and tracking SFU's media coverage. Records include correspondence, opinion polls, press releases, brochures, and news clipping reports.

Media and Public Relations

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the Director of Media and Public Relations (called University News Services prior to 1988) during the period when this office reported to the Vice-President, Harbour Centre. Activities and topics documented include media liaison and publicity, and a media relations audit (1986). Records include correspondence, reports, press releases, and brochures and other printed material.

Library - general

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the University Librarian during the periods when the Library reported to the VP Academic or Associate VP Academic (1970-1985; 1990-1994). Activities and topics documented include policy development; evolution of the administrative structure, including the Library's development plan (1970) and re-organization of library management (1985); meetings of the Library Management Group (after 1992); external reviews, including a departmental review (1973-1974), review by the President's Advisory Committee on the Library (1984), and the Library Review Committee (1991-1992); library budget and funding; acquisitions and collections policy, including a survey of holdings for the Fine and Performing Arts (1981) and a questionnaire study (1982); cooperation with other libraries, including the "college processing" project of the early 1970s; and information technology systems planning and implementation. Records include correspondence, reports, budgets, meeting minutes of the Library Management Group (LMG), legal advice, and inventories.

Library

Sub-sub-series consists of the Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the University Librarian during the period when the university Library reported to the Vice-President, Research. Activities and topics documented include library strategic planning, policy development, acquisitions budget, space planning, meetings of the Library Management Group (LMG), the report of the University Library Review Committee and the Library's response (1991), a faculty survey (1994), and operations of the university Bookstore, which reported to the University Librarian during this period. Records include correspondence, meeting minutes, reports (including LMG reports and Library annual reports), and bookstore financial statements.
