Dancing in Cyberspace records

Sub-series consists of records relating to the development, delivery, and outcomes for the telelearning course, “Dancing in Cyberspace: Creating with the Virtual Body.” Garland co-developed the course with New York University PhD student Lisa Marie Naugle using Life Forms, a software program created by Dr. Thomas W. Calvert in SFU’s Computing Science Department. The software allowed for the study and choreography of animated human figures and, as a telelearning course, the topic could be offered to distance education students. Sub-series also includes material related to an intensive workshop Garland delivered on the software to a select group of professional choreographers in Sydney, Australia. Records include lecture notes, lesson plans, course syllabi and outlines, reading lists, exams, assignments, background literature, copies of articles and reviews, reports, and proposals.

Education records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Iris Garland’s studies from elementary school through to post secondary education and extracurricular activities. Records include certificates, photographs, course notes, and graded assignments and exams.

Employment records

Sub-series consists of records relating primarily to Iris Garland’s employment with SFU, but also to her work in the United States prior to moving to Canada. Records include correspondence, curricula vitae, and other materials.
