Fonds consists of records made or received by Mitch Taylor in the course of his professional activities and business ventures from 1972 to 1992. The records relate primarily to Taylor's co-founding, development and operation of Granville Island Brewing Company Limited in Vancouver, BC from 1981 to April 1989; his time at the brewery in the role of VP Sales and Marketing for Potters Distilling from April 1989 to 1992; and his co-founding of Creekhouse Industries on Granville Island in 1972.
Fonds consists of textual records, graphic materials, photographic materials and artefacts, and is arranged into four series:
File consists of a report compiled by UBC Commerce 468 students “to analyse the brewing industry within its rapidly changing environment in preparation for a marketing analysis for Molsons Brewery of BC.” Much of the information was obtained through interviews with brewery executives, licensee retail store owners/employees, regulatory bodies and consumers.
File consists of labels for Island Lager, Island Bock and Island Marzen; a bottle tag for Island Lager; and promotional cards for Lord Granville Premium Lager Beer created for the international market.
Sub-series consists of invitations, promotional material and other records relating to events put on by Granville Island Brewing and Granville Island in general, including the brewery launch party on June 9, 1984, anniversary celebrations and beer launches. Also included are postcards for the German Pavilion at Expo 86, which served Granville Island beer.
File consists of copies of an invitation to Granville Island Brewing Company’s fifth anniversary, as well as correspondence, promotional photographs and a button relating to the event.
File consists of a contact sheet of photographs showing Granville Island Brewing staff members (including Tom Taylor) loading beer onto and posing with the brewery truck.
Sub-series consists of newspaper and magazine articles accumulated by Mitch Taylor relating to Granville Island Brewing and featuring Taylor and brewmaster Rainer Kallahne.
File consists of magazine articles relating to Granville Island Brewing, including: “Brave new breweries” (Canadian Business, April 1986); “At last: western beer” (Western Report, September 15, 1986).
