Working titles for this novel included Harry the Egg-Man; The Woman Who Gave Love Birds as a Present; Once, A Raleigh Man; The Summer of Rose; and The Servant’s Son. The many drafts in this sub-series show the progression from first writings to finished work. The drafts also show that Mootoo worked on her novel in sections, assigning alpha-numeric designators to each section during the draft stages of the work (eg. 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 2C and so on).
