This file consists of photocopy and original newspaper clippings and excerpts from following publications: Outlines of Russian culture and House of Commons Debates (1933). These documents relate to the Doukhobor relations with the Sons of Freedom.

[Clippings, interview]

This file consists of newspaper clippings that relating to J. J. Verigin’s interaction with the USCC, the Doukhobor community and the Sons of Freedom. In particular, the clippings refer to the oath of allegiance and issues with the Canadian anthem in schools. In addition, this file includes transcript of interview of Feodor Makhortoff and Stephan Lapshinoff with Anastasia Bojey [Bozhii] (1985).

[Excepts from publications]

This file contains excerpts from publications: chapter “Istoki” relating to the emergency meeting of authorized factories and plants in Petersburg in 1918; and excerpts from “Religion, religious sectarianism and church” by V. D. Bonch-Bruevich.

[Articles]

This file includes copy of articles, clippings, and transcribed articles that relate to the Sons of Freedom relationship with the rest of the Doukhobor community. Most of the documents were created in late 1920s and early 1930s. One of the documents is a collection of transcribed articles compiled for a special meeting that took place on March 3, 1965 in relation to the Simma Holt’s book “Terror in the name of God”.

This file consists of photocopy of images and newspaper clippings that relate to the Sons of Freedom nude protests and hunger strike between years 1932-1953.

[Clippings, publications]

This file consists of newspaper issues and clippings with articles relating to the J. J. Verigin as leader and representative of the Doukhobor community, relations with U. S. S. R., and the Sons of Freedom. Newspaper issues and clippings come mostly from Glos rodiny (Family Voice) and Vestnik. Most of the articles are dated between years 1966-1982.

This file consists of photocopy and original newspaper clippings that relate to Michael “Archangel” Verigin, Sorokin’s leadership and the Sons of Freedom.

Photographs

This sub-series consists of photographic black & white and color images depicting the Sons of Freedom’s various protest and gathering activities from 1927 until 1993. The protests and gatherings were results of various circumstances that the Sons of Freedom found unjustly and worthy of fighting against. Some of the protest were the response to the Canadian government treatment of the Sons, including detention of the children or prison sentences given for arson and public nudity. Other protests were prompted by discontent with leadership issues and divisions within the Doukhobor community as well as by eagerness to demonstrate the Sons’ beliefs. This sub-series includes images of protesters gathering, marching and/or being arrested; images of trek to Aggasiz and camp settlement; images of arson; images of nude protests and images of visits to New Denver School Dormitory where the Sons of Freedom children were detained
