Writings

This sub-series consists of the reports, writings, speeches, talks, addresses, mandate, manual, texts of songs created on behalf of the CCUB by its executive members. These documents relate to the history and ideology of the Doukhobor communities and its leaders and were written for the benefit of the communities. This sub-series contains both original mimeographed and manuscript documents as well as photocopies of documents. Most documents are in Russian and a few in English.

[Writings]

This file consists of song text, message, appeal, protocol, list of documents, resolution and clipping. It includes an appeal to the brotherhood of working people by the Russian anti-military movement; a prophetical message; a resolution of the Sons of Freedom in regards to their children’s education; an anonymous letter considering the Russian Eastern Orthodox and Doukhobor beliefs as well as a list of documents created by the Sons of Freedom between years 1928-1951.

Writings

This series consists of the Doukhobor writings in various formats including: journals, dairies, notebooks, manuscripts, addresses to the community, notes, narratives, philosophical writings, song texts, letters, speeches, articles, newspaper clippings, excerpts and other types. These records reveal Doukhobor personal experiences as immigrants, their views on politics, religion and ideology, and their way of life. Some of these accounts are written by identified individual members of the Doukhobor community and many are anonymous.

This file consists of correspondence of J. F. C. Wright with Eli Popoff and supporting records including newspaper clippings, reports and Eli Popoff’s correspondence with the School Board in Grand Forks. This file includes records related to the USCC.

[Women's statements]

This file consists of statements, notes and reports relating to the actions of the female members of the USCC and the Sons of Freedom. Statements are by Masha Malakoff, Masha Astoforoff, Lusha Arishinkov, Savelii Fominov, Tanya Ostrikoff.

[Women's protests]

This file consists of message from superintendent of R.C.M.P. in Nelson in regards to articles being published in Iskra by women that stir the Doukhobor community, accompanied by the copy of the article.

[Women statements and letters]

This file consists of correspondence and statements by the Doukhobor women relating to arson and imprisonment mostly between 1972 and 1986. Authors and subject of the documents include: Tanya Ostrikoff, Mary Malakoff, Mary Astoforoff, Tina Zmaeff, Vera Posnikoff, Polly Chernoff, Mary Braun. This file also includes telegram (1929) from S. F. Tolmie to Prime Minster McKenzie King regarding disruptions caused by the Doukhobors and their imprisonment.
