Government and book information files

Series consists of records documenting government grants, general book business reference material, and the publishing association and group activities of Nunaga Publishing and Rick Antonson. Associations and organizations include the Canada Council, BC Publishers Group, Canadian Book Information Centre and the Independent Publishers Association.

Publicity and related records

Series consists of newspaper clippings, catalogues and other records relating to advertising, book announcements and publicity garnered or collected by Nunaga Publishing Ltd. and Rick Antonson.

Douglas & McIntyre files

Series consists of correspondence, notes, memos and minutes documenting the sale of Antonson Publishing’s assets to Douglas & McIntyre (D&M), and Rick Antonson’s subsequent role as Vice President, then member of D&M’s board of directors.

CKVU

Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to the business transactions, staffing, and programming of CKVU-TV Vancouver. Due to the takeover of the station by Global TV and the subsequent litigations, this series also contains various legal records including transcripts of court proceedings, settlement contracts, affidavits and subpoenas. This series also includes business correspondence and personal information regarding Duke's role within the organization.

CBC

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved in when employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Records include drafts of screenplays, scripts, publicity, administrative documents, and other records related to the creation and production of Duke's projects. Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to Duke's involvement with the Banff Television Festival. This series includes business correspondence, personal notes and information regarding Duke's contributions to adjudications and presentations within the organization.

Vancouver Awards Show

Series consists mainly of textual material pertaining to Duke's involvement in organizing and scripting the Vancouver Awards Show. This series includes business correspondence, personal notes, draft scripts, publicity and information regarding Duke's contributions to the show’s production.

Personal journals

Series consists of notebooks, journals, notes and press clippings. From about 1945 to 2005 Duke made nearly daily entries in notebooks. These notebooks contain Duke’s thoughts, observations and concepts for future projects ranging from articles to screenplays, legal proceedings, housing plans and travel accounts.

Agendas

Series consists of 8 Economist hard-bound agendas. These agendas outline Duke’s personal and professional schedules during this time period.

Personal publicity

Series consists of magazines, newspapers, clippings and photocopies of articles about Duke or his various projects. Clippings were either set aside by Duke himself, or received from professional press clippings companies.

Ephemera

Series consists of items such as bank books, report cards, pay stubs, receipts, architectural blueprints, press passes, event ticket stubs and house design notes.

Series consists of audio recordings made by Duke including personal musical compilations, family voice recordings, interviews with Duke and various production themes.

Videocassettes

Series consists of video recordings including copies of Duke’s cinematic productions, interviews and award presentations.

Photographs

Series consists of various production, personal and publicity photographs as well as photographs used for legal purposes.

Administrative records

Series consists of correspondence, legal and financial records, notes, manuals, plans, agreements, project files, customer survey research and other materials generated or used by Celia Duthie, as president of Duthie Books, Ltd.

Business proposals

Series is comprised of requests for proposals, correspondence and proposals for bookstores in the following locations: Vancouver Airport, BC Ferries, Open Learning Agency's Knowledge bookstore and the Vancouver Writers Festival.

Duthie Books 40th anniversary project files

Series is comprised of records gathered and produced for the fortieth anniversary of Duthie Books, celebrated in 1997. Records include photographs, correspondence, notes, drafts and ephemera.

Press clippings

Series consists of newspaper clippings of advertisements, announcements, articles and letters to the editor documenting the activities of and publicity received by Duthie Books Ltd., including those addressing the subject of Duthie Books' bankruptcy and financial restructuring.

Marketing files

Series consists of records generated by the marketing department of Duthie Books’ head office. Key staff members were Marketing Managers Scott Baldwin and Leanne Nash. Records document the organization of events, annual sales, the customer loyalty program, co-operative promotions, signage, and advertising. Series is divided into the following three sub-series: Events files (1997-1999); Marketing and promotions files (1993-1999) and Advertising files (1997-1999).

Publication files

Series consists of records relating to Duthie Books’ publishing activities, including their book review periodical “The Reader,” “The New Reader,” as well as catalogues, guides and various staff, customer and employee newsletters. Series is divided into three sub-series: Original reader files (1986-1995); New Reader files (1996-1999); and Catalogue and newsletter files ([198-]-1999).
