This series consist of documents written about J. J. Verigin in relation to his role as a leader of the USCC and his prominent role within the Doukhobor communities. The documents include: reports, accounts, opinions, statement, speech, biographies, song texts, hansard, newspaper and magazine clippings and articles. Most documents are in English, except one in Russian; all documents are printed.

Writings about J.J. Verigin

This file consists of reports and accounts of events with participation of J. J. Verigin, speeches mentioning him and his biography. The documents include speech by George Tarasoff; account of Doukhobors visit in Vancouver in 1967; statement clarifying J. J. Verigin’s role as material leader of the Sons of Freedom; a document titled: “Secret aims of J. J. Verigin’s visitors from Moscow” 1972; a document titled “J. J. Verigin’s activities – now intensified” 1975; short biographies of J. J. Verigin and Anna Markova followed by texts of songs.

This file consists of newspaper and magazine clippings and articles relating to organizational activities of the USCC and J. J. Verigin as its leader. Clippings come from English and Russian language publications, including Iskra. One of the articles contains J. J. Verigin report on his trip to the U.S.S.R. in 1972. All printed and photocopied records are in English or Russian.

Peter P. Verigin III documents

This file consists of transcription of original letter written by Peter P. Verigin (Yastrebov) III to Nikole Plotnikov in 1944 and excerpt from letter written by Peter P. Verigin III to Anna Markova in 1942. This excerpt was printed in issue no. 792 (1960) of Iskra. In addition, this file contains except from Iskra’s issue no. 781 (1960) that reports the death of Peter P. Verigin III in 1942. All documents are mimeographs in Russian.

This series consists of documents created by J. J. Verigin’s close family members, his uncle Peter P. Verigin the Second and his mother Anna Markova, also sister of Peter P. Verigin the Second. The series includes the correspondence of Peter P. Verigin the Second, also known as Yastrebov and annotated map of the Doukhobor settlement drawn by Anna Markova.

Anna Markova documents

This file consists of pencil drawn map of the Don area Doukhobor settlement by Anna Markova and accompanying handwritten notes and an envelope addressed to Eli A. Popoff, 1971. All documents are handwritten in Russian.

Photographs

This series consists of one party hand-colored and 25 black and white photographs of J. J. Verigin and his family taken at various events, such as funeral of Peter P. Verigin, funeral of Evodokia, funeral of Anna Fedorova, J. J. Verigin’s wedding and Jubilee 50th anniversary of Doukhobors in Canada. There are several composite photographs containing images that pre-date the composites in some cases by a couple of decades.
