bpNicol seminar records

Sub-series consists of records relating to a graduate seminar about bpNichol's work "Martyrology" given at both the University of Calgary and at Simon Fraser University, with Wah teaching the University of Calgary section and Roy Miki teaching the one at Simon Fraser University. The course used the electronic mailing list (listserv) "beep-l" as the medium of communication for the two sections of the seminar. The course culminated in a colloquium entitled "Beyond the Orchard: A joint graduate colloquium on bpNichol’s The Martyrology." Writings from the course and colloquium were later published in a volume of the same name. Records include correspondence and course material.

File consists of Wah’s application for assisted leave for professional development, and a personal email sent by Wah.

Residency records

Series consists of records relating to the various residencies and related programs that Wah has participated in during his career. These residencies have primarily been writer-in-residence programs at various academic and non-academic institutions, the most notable of which being his tenure as the Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate from 2011-2013. Records include correspondence, promotional materials, and administrative records.

File consists of correspondence, research materials such as an inventory of bpNichol’s work, course syllabus, and other records relating to Wah’s bpNichol graduate seminar.

The coast is only a line : summer school programme

File consists of correspondence and curriculum outlines for the summer school programme “The coast is only a line: contemporary poetry and prose in British Columbia,” offered at Simon Fraser University, and taught by Warren Tallman and Eli Mandel. Wah participated as a writer-in-residence.

File consists of typescripts, some with additions and corrections, a small notebook with notes, and printer's proof with corrections.

[Tom] Wayman

File consists of materials relating to Tom Wayman and his role as instructor at the David Thompson University Centre: a statement written by Wayman, his curriculum vitae, and his letter of resignation from the institution.

Conference on the Canadian Long Poem and Forum on the Arts

File consists of materials relating to 2 events, the “Conference on the Canadian Long Poem,” held at York University from May 29-June 1, 1984, and the “NeWest Institute Forum on the Arts,” held from July 29-31, 1988, in Nordegg, Alberta: Correspondence, flyers, as well as drafts of Wah's paper “Making strange poetics.”

Exposure '83

File consists of materials relating to the Exposure '83 conference: writing, mostly typescripts of poetry by Wah and others, and a program booklet from the conference.

SwiftCurrent : electronic literary magazine

File consists of materials relating to “SwiftCurrent,” an online journal edited by Wah and Frank Davey: correspondence, contributions, instructions for logging on, flyers, and news clippings.

Canada Council explorations program

File consists of materials such as applications, correspondence, and news releases from this Canada Council program, for which Fred Wah was a member of the British Columbia Regional selection committee.

File consists of manuscript of “The H.D. Book” by Robert Duncan.

File consists of syllabi and other course materials, correspondence, and administrative materials such as grade collection sheets relating to various courses taught at the University of Calgary.

Kootenay oral anthology : readings

File consists of submissions of poetry and prose for the “Kootenay oral anthology,” a reading organized by Wah and performed in Nelson, B.C. on December 7, 1984.

[Miscellaneous writings and comics]

File consists of various writings by Wah, predominantly essays, interviews with Wah, and two issues of the comic book “Tank Girl.”

Sub-series consists of records relating to specific courses taught by Wah. Records are primarily related to his work at the University of Calgary, though one file contains records relating to a course given at the University of Regina. Records include course syllabi and assignments, course readings, enrolment records, and student work.
