Politics and law

Interviews

Series consists of 18 audio cassette tapes containing 10 interviews. Series also consists of word-for-word transcriptions of the interviews and versions of the interviews that have been edited and condensed for publication.

Production files

Series consists of materials related to the production of the work Poets and Print, including a grant application, notes, chapter drafts and completed work drafts, correspondence, and layouts.

Douglas & McIntyre files

Series consists of correspondence, notes, memos and minutes documenting the sale of Antonson Publishing’s assets to Douglas & McIntyre (D&M), and Rick Antonson’s subsequent role as Vice President, then member of D&M’s board of directors.

Publicity and related records

Series consists of newspaper clippings, catalogues and other records relating to advertising, book announcements and publicity garnered or collected by Nunaga Publishing Ltd. and Rick Antonson.

Government and book information files

Series consists of records documenting government grants, general book business reference material, and the publishing association and group activities of Nunaga Publishing and Rick Antonson. Associations and organizations include the Canada Council, BC Publishers Group, Canadian Book Information Centre and the Independent Publishers Association.

Correspondence

Series consists of the incoming and outgoing correspondence of Rick Antonson in his role as president of Nunaga Publishing and Antonson Publishing Ltd. For correspondence regarding government grants and Nunaga's role in publishing associations, see Series 5, Government and book information files.

Sales and distribution records

Series consists of records relating to book sales and distribution; these document Nunaga’s relationship with its sales representatives and agencies including J.J. Douglas, McIntyre and Stanton, Belford and Mountain Press.

Book and magazine project files

Series consists of project files for books and magazines originated or purchased by Nunaga Publishing or Antonson Publishing. Records include publicity clippings, correspondence, notes, publications, graphic material, manuscripts and photographs. Series is divided into two sub-series: Published by Nunaga/Antonson (1970-1980) and Distributed by Nunaga/Antonson (1975-1978).

Corporate records

Series consists of corporate records for Nunanga Publishing Ltd. These include minutes, resolutions, contracts, agreements, invoices, shares, Nunaga’s logo design, and financial and tax records.

Simon Fraser University, Department of Geography and the Union of Socialist Geographers records

This series is comprised of minutes of meetings, project reports, academic papers, departmental notes and memos regarding the relationship between the SFU Department of Geography and faculty members who were strong followers of Socialist Geography as a field, as well as with the USG. There is also documentation relating to the Vancouver Geographical Expedition, a community project developed by SFU graduate students that was inspired by previous work conducted in North America.

The series contains records related to the regular business practices of the company and anything relevant to more than one publishing project. It is divided into the following 5 files: Production schedules and paperwork (2011-2012), Promotional materials (2002-2012), Sales figures and inventory (2005-2012), Correspondence (2003-2012) and Staffing and employee benefits (2002).

"The Wild Ride" - Charles Wilkins

This series is comprised of records related to the conception and publication of the book “The Wild Ride: A History of the North West Mounted Police 1873-1904” published in 2010.

"Waterfront" - James Delgado

This series is comprised of records related to the conception and publication of the book “Waterfront: the Illustrated Maritime Story of Greater Vancouver” published in 2005. In 2006, “Waterfront” shared the BC Book Prize for Booksellers’ Choice award.

Photographs

This series consists of prints (some mounted), negatives and slides - both professional and amateur shots - of various performances and rehearsals. Some artistic photo shoots are also included. In many instances exact dates are not known but a general guess by the donor is provided.

Ruth Emerson Wortis performances and interviews

This series is comprised of two 3-disc collections titled "Ruth Emerson: Her Vancouver & SFU Years". They were produced by the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and contain several recorded performances and interviews conducted over a 9 year period.

Ruth Emerson Wortis biographical information

This series consists of biographical information for Ruth Emerson Wortis compiled by the donor. This includes: a copy of the obituary written by Michael Wortis including photocopies of images used, a resume, and a comprehensive list of performances, dances choreographed by Ruth, publications and reviews.

Writings and correspondence

This series consists primarily of Ruth’s correspondence regarding certain dance pieces, her personal notes and writings, or articles she authored for publication.

The majority of this series is comprised of newspaper and magazine articles containing reviews of performances which Ruth participated in and, later, produced. Publications include: the “Boston Herald”, “Lexington Minute-Man”, “Wellesley Townsman”, “Boston Globe”, “Cambridge Chronical”, “Dance Observer”, “Village Voice”, “The New York Times”, “Show Business”, “New York Herald Tribune”, “Dance Magazine”, “Christian Science Monitor”, “Champaign-Urbana Courier”, “Daily Illini”, Seattle Times”, “Seattle Post-Intelligencer”, “Champaign-Urbana News Gazette”, “The Peak”, “Georgia Straight”, “Contact Quarterly”, “Radcliffe News”, and the “Vancouver Sun”.

Programs and flyers

This series consists of promotional materials (flyers, posters, mailings, and some newspaper clippings) and programs of Ruth’s performances over the years. It is possible not only to trace the genesis and evolution of certain pieces, but the breadth of detail in the records serves to contextualize Ruth’s path geographically, stylistically, and professionally among her peers. Beginning with her initial performances with The Dancemakers to her work with the Judson Dance Theatre, her training abroad and graduate studies, her career in dance education and through to her efforts to coordinate community engagement in dance, it is possible to view Ruth’s career through these materials based on the depth of her participation and involvement. In some cases there are multiple copies of the same item.

Dance, movement and music scores

This series represents a collection of dance scores and choreographic materials compiled throughout Ruth’s career. Some are for single events while others show the growth and evolution of pieces as they are adapted over the years for different venues, groups or types of dances, and to the audiences for which they are performed.

Publication files

Series consists of records relating to Duthie Books’ publishing activities, including their book review periodical “The Reader,” “The New Reader,” as well as catalogues, guides and various staff, customer and employee newsletters. Series is divided into three sub-series: Original reader files (1986-1995); New Reader files (1996-1999); and Catalogue and newsletter files ([198-]-1999).

Marketing files

Series consists of records generated by the marketing department of Duthie Books’ head office. Key staff members were Marketing Managers Scott Baldwin and Leanne Nash. Records document the organization of events, annual sales, the customer loyalty program, co-operative promotions, signage, and advertising. Series is divided into the following three sub-series: Events files (1997-1999); Marketing and promotions files (1993-1999) and Advertising files (1997-1999).
