Posters

Sub-series consists of Rowling's collection of posters relating to beer and breweries in BC. Most posters originate in the craft beer period (post-1982), but file 6 includes two posters for the historical Silver Springs Brewery in Victoria. Other breweries represented include R&B Brewing Company (ca. 1990s), Spinnakers Brewpub (ca. 1990s), Tall Ship Ale Company (ca. 1990s), Cannery Brewing Company (2001), and Phillips Brewing Company (2011). The sub-series also includes a poster for Hopunion (ca. 2000s) and a 1997 poster on BC's Microbrewed Experience.

Business cards

Sub-series consists of business cards collected by Rowling from individuals involved in the BC brewing industry.

Beer magazines

Sub-series consists of Rowling's collection of magazines relating to beer and the brewing industry. Four titles are represented in the collection: All About Beer, Taps, The Growler, and Vendor magazine.

The Growler magazine

File consists of seven issues of The Growler, the BC-based quarterly guide to BC craft breweries, established in 2015. Rowling's collection includes:

Culture Shop administrative records

Sub-series contains records related to the administration of the Adbusters Media Foundation Culture Shop, with specific reference to multiple user surveys conducted to determine user engagement with the website. Physical and born-digital records include manuals, user surveys, and survey findings.

School project records

The series consists of paper and born-digital records relating to the joint partnership between Adbusters Media Foundation and RED Academy Vancouver. This partnership arose for the development of a mobile application as well as a digital marketing strategy for Adbusters. Paper records include correspondence, a community partnership agreement, and conceptual sketches of the mobile application. Born-digital records include community partnership agreements, a digital marketing plan, sales analytics, emails, a powerpoint presentation (in .PDF format), and moving images depicting the conceptual design of the World Revolution App (in .MOV format).

Coasters, table-top and tent cards

Sub-series consists of coasters Smith collected from various breweries, as well as brewery cards used on table displays at beer festivals and related events.

Posters

Sub-series consists of Smith's collection of brewery and beer-related posters. Posters are assigned to files by brewery or organization and arranged alphabetically.

Tap handles

Sub-series consists of brewery tap handles collected by Smith relating to BC craft breweries. No attempt has been made to date individual tap handles, but all post-date the start of the craft beer made movement in BC in the 1980s. Items are organized by brewery, with a file for each brewery arranged alphabetically.

News releases and media reports

Series consists of paper and digital news releases created by Communications and Marketing and its predecessors, as well as compilations of press coverage about the university. From its inception, SFU regularly created news releases intended for public dissemination to highlight significant events at the university and publicize the work of faculty, staff and students. From 1965 to 2003, these were maintained in paper form. Around 2002, the university began to post the releases on its website, and the paper records were discontinued by 2003. Starting in 1970, the department also began systematically compiling media articles about SFU into annual or semesterly appearing Media Reports ("Simon Fraser University in the news").

Record types include press releases, media advisories, and copies of newspapers articles. The web news releases were captured by the Archives as pdf files; see sub-series 3 for more information about the digital transfer process.

Fonds consists of records made or received by University Communications and Marketing and its predecessors.

Activities and topics documented include the establishment, organization and operation of the unit; photography of SFU people, places and events for campus publications; provision of information to the public; organization of special events; liaison with other units in the University; and the production of press releases, brochures, and on-going publications.

Records types include correspondence, minutes, reports, proposals, and working papers; photographs, including negatives and contact sheets; university press releases and publications; and articles and other reference materials relating to SFU.

The fonds is arranged into seven series:

University Communications and Marketing

Breweriana

Series consists of Rowling's collection of artefacts and merchandise relating to BC breweries. Items include beer bottles, labels and glasses; posters, t-shirt, coasters, bottle openers, keychains, and business cards. Most of the materials relate to post-1980 craft breweries, but there are some beer bottles (sub-series 1), posters (sub-series 3) and artefacts (sub-series 6) for earlier historic BC breweries; see sub-series descriptions for details.

Other beer-related artefacts and merchandise

Sub-series consists of Rowling's collection of brewery- and beer-related small merchandise. Artefacts include coasters, bottle openers, beer caps, and key chains. Most of the breweries representated belong to the craft beer period (post-1982), but there are some earlier items, including bottle openers for the Victoria-Phoenix Brewing Company and Vancouver Breweries Ltd, as well as a 1911 receipt book for the Silver Spring Brewery.
