Biographical history

Yvonne Klan was born in a logging camp near Victoria, BC in 1930. She developed her literary tastes in the bunkhouses of her youth, where it wasn't uncommon for rough–hewn loggers to spend their evenings reciting bunkhouse ballads. She wrote many historical articles on the history of British Columbia and is the author of The Old Red Shirt: Pioneer Poets of British Columbia. She was married to poet Peter Trower for twenty-five years.

Custodial history

Records were in the custody of Peter Trower prior to their acquisition by Simon Fraser University Library Special Collections and Rare Books in 2004.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of records reflecting Yvonne Klan's research into the history of the fur trade, the British Columbia opium trade, James Murray Yale, B.C.'s First Nations, and pioneer poets. Records include copies of her published works, travel notes, radio scripts and publishing proposals.
