Fonds consists of records made or received by Mitch Taylor in the course of his professional activities and business ventures from 1972 to 1992. The records relate primarily to Taylor's co-founding, development and operation of Granville Island Brewing Company Limited in Vancouver, BC from 1981 to April 1989; his time at the brewery in the role of VP Sales and Marketing for Potters Distilling from April 1989 to 1992; and his co-founding of Creekhouse Industries on Granville Island in 1972.
Fonds consists of textual records, graphic materials, photographic materials and artefacts, and is arranged into four series:
Series consists of talks and speeches given by Mitch Taylor to various organizations relating to establishing, growing and operating Granville Island Brewing (GIB); the brewing business; the GIB brewing process; and Taylor’s experiences as an entrepreneur.
Includes talks given to the Building Supply Dealer Association, the UBC MBA program and Canadian Food Services Executives Association, Vancouver Branch.
Series consists of press and publicity relating to Mitch Taylor and includes a published article concerning Taylor and Bill Harvey’s Creekhouse venture.
Series consists of records relating to the founding, development, administration and operation of Granville Island Brewing Company Limited during the time of Mitch Taylor’s involvement with the company. Types of material include reports; policy and procedure documents; photographs; promotional material; press clippings; and artefacts such as beer bottles, tap handles, kegs, glasses and t-shirts.
Sub-series consists of records relating to the administration and operation of Granville Island Brewing Limited. Includes records relating to its licensing; policies and procedures; employee management; information management systems; and general administrative tasks and forms.
The sub-series is arranged into three sub-sub-series:
Sub-sub-series consists of various records relating to the administration of Granville Island Brewing, and includes copies of its first brewer's license and the German Purity Law analysis of Island Lager; Mitch Taylor biographical information, business cards and name tag; a loan agreement; and a management information systems report.
Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the management of Granville Island Brewing staff, and includes employee manuals and mission statement; job descriptions; meeting notes and agenda; and records relating to employee performance appraisal.
File contains a copy of the 1986 Granville Island Brewing Employee manual. The manual includes policies and procedures for store operations, store administration and distribution, as well as bulletins, job descriptions and a “Retail Store Report” dated October 10, 1986. Includes information regarding the brewery’s suppliers, pricing, staff uniforms, and scripts for brewery tours.
Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the marketing of Granville Island Brewing and its products, and includes marketing plans, analyses and reports; price lists; customer questionnaire; marketing manager job description; graphics manual; and copies of articles relating to brewing industry competition.
