Court records

This series consists of documents relating to libel court case initiated by Stefan Sorokin against Dennis Williams of Trail Times Limited in 1959. Sorokin was represented by Messrs Rankin and Dean Barristers and Solicitors. The records include transcripts of Examination for Discovery, Court of Appeal, related correspondence and documents.

Correspondence

This series consists of correspondence of Stephan Sorokin in capacity as the leader of the CCBRD and a leader/spokesperson of the Sons of Freedom with various individuals of within the Doukhobor community and outside of it, including representatives of the Canadian government and other organizations. This series contains incoming and outgoing correspondence. Many of the letters are with or regarding of the imprisoned members of the Reformed Doukhobors community. Besides letters, telegrams, and open letters, the files in this series contain other records including Sorokin addresses to community, resolution, clippings, texts of poems, psalms and prayers, reports, meeting minutes of the Fraternal Council of CCBRD and other matters related to the CCBRD and the Sons of Freedom. Sorokin’s letters are sent from South America, mainly Montevideo, Uruguay.

Some of correspondents include: F. J. Mead, William Evans, Rankin, Dean & Munro, Joseph Podovinikoff, Walter Siegmeister, W. M. Moojelsky, A. Kolesnikov, I. I. Perepelkin, S. Tomilin, Petr Iliasov, Ivan Chernov, A. Reibin, Steve Lapshinoff, Joseph Ogloff, and Mikhail Chernenkoff.

In English and in Russian and some in Spanish.

Series consists of negatives, contact sheets, photographs and slides.

Ephemera

Series consists of posters, flyers, leaflets, and trade publications.

Reference material

Series consists of photocopies, clippings, images, publications and ephemera used for research in writing various essays, reviews, and poems.

Personal

Series consists of souveniers of travel, memorabilia, library check-out lists, receipts, report cards, and school work.

Correspondence

Series consists of letters, printouts of emails, and faxes from various friends, editors, family members, and grants. Includes photographic material and drafts of poems and other writings.

Works by others

Series consists of drafts, typescripts, page proofs, and publications by others.

Writing

Series contains material relating to Culley's poetry, books, and essays. Includes handwritten, typed, and word-processed notes and drafts of works; some annotated; page proofs and other materials relating to the creation and publication process of Culley's works; published work; recordings of talks given; and includes correspondence. The series has been divided into several sub-series, which were created based on form. The subseries are: Notebooks; Notes and drafts; Typescripts and page proofs; Talks; and Publications.

Media

This series consists of sound recordings of interview with Hugh Herbison, sound recording of Stephan Sorokin’s funeral and a recording of the CBC program on Doukhobors’ tapestry.

Posters

This series consists 4 posters related to the McGauley’s research on the Doukhobors. Most posters are not dated, but there were created most likely in late twentieth century.

General records

This series consists of various records relating to the Doukhobor communities including USCC, CCBRD and Sons of Freedom. It includes reports, transcripts of testimonies, chronologies, phone directories, events programs, Doukhobor leadership messages to community.

Writings

This series consists of unpublished writings of members of the Doukhobor community, book drafts, historical and prison accounts, statements, speeches, essays and research notes.

Publications, clippings

This series consists of single issues various serial publications and newsletters, copy of books chapters, newspaper clippings and leaflets related to the Doukhobors of British Columbia, their conflicts with the government and conflicts within the Doukhobor community. Timeline covered by the series related predominantly to the 1980s and 1990s, but many articles and clippings related to events of the previous decades. This series also includes almost full run of Istina, the Sons of Freedom newsletter published by Mike E. Chernenkoff.

Correspondence

This series consists of outgoing and incoming correspondence of Tom McGauley with various individuals of Doukhobor community, other researchers into Doukhobor history, and government representatives involved with the Doukhobor community. This file also contains photocopies of Doukhobor correspondence collected as research material. Some of the correspondence includes additional records including notes, chapters, proposals, etc

Photographs

This series consists of photographs and photocopy of photographs relating to the Sons of Freedom protests, including arson and nude demonstrations. In addition, the file includes two microfiches dated 1983 and 1984 from Selkirk College library with listing of book titles regarding local natural resources.

Publications, clippings, etc.

This series consists of the publications, clippings, articles, writings, booklets, Iskra issues and clippings, and photographs. The records in this series relate to the Doukhobor community and its culture activities as well as to Doukhobor history and a way of life.

Correspondence

This series consists of correspondence of Peter Legebokoff with various individuals and organizations within the Doukhobor community and from outside of it, including allies in Canada and abroad. This series includes letters and related material such as songs text, reports, clippings, writings, articles, and photographs.

General records

This series consists of the records relating to the Peter Legebokoff’s association with various Doukhobor organizations, including the USCC, the Joint Doukhobor Research Committee, and the Doukhobor Cultural Association. The records relate to the Doukhobor cultural events, Sunday school meetings, conventions, and other cultural matters. The records include meeting minutes, correspondence, writings, notes, lists, reports, commemorative pins and buttons and other related material.

Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society

This series consists of records related to the work of Peter Legebokoff as a curator of the Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society, including organization of the Doukhobor Village Museum and other projects aiming at preservation of the Doukhobor culture.

Writings and personal records

This series consists of personal financial records including bank and pension documents, correspondence and various financial statements. In addition, this series contains Legebokoff’s writings, notes, articles, Iskra clippings, translations, presentations, interviews and other related records and correspondence.
Many records relate to the Doukhobor beliefs and customs.

USCC Records

This series consists of records relating to the USCC as organization and Eli A. Popoff’s role in the organization from personal perspective and as a member of the Executive Committee of the USCC. This series contains various records, including administrative, correspondence, conferences, committees, symposiums, conventions, cultural and events records.
This series consists of nine sub-series: 1: Administrative records; 2: USCC general records; 3: Festival, events and choir records; 4: Symposiums; 5: General committees and conferences records; 6: Migration committee; 7: MRA conferences; 8: Conventions; 9: Customs and traditions.

Teaching records

This series consists of the writings, notes, songs texts, clippings, chapters, flyers, booklets, correspondence and articles prepared for Sunday school teachings, for lecture series at Selkirk College and for other teaching events.

This series is divided into two sub-series: 1: Selkirk College; 2: General lectures.

Iskra records

This series consists of administrative records created by the Iskra’s editorial board and publishing activity, as well as various records collected as resources and research material for the Iskra publication.
This series includes article drafts, notes, correspondence, clipping, issues of periodicals, songs, texts, articles, speeches, reports, meeting minutes, agendas, teaching material, and other related records.

Writings

This series consists of the various writings by Eli Popoff and other authors some of which may not have been published. The series consists of articles, essays, interview transcripts, notes, song texts, speeches, and other records that related to the Doukhobor history and culture.
Series 1 is divided into two sub-series: 1: Popoff’s writings; 2: Writings of others

Photographs

The series contains photographs, negatives, and slides created and accumulated by both Harry and Valerie Jerome. The photographs dates from 1919-[2005] and reflect the personal and professional lives of Harry, Valerie, and the Jerome family in general.

Personal records

Series consists of various types of records relating to Wah's personal activities. Records include photographs, notes and course materials from his days as a university student, personal calendars, and records relating to Wah's 20th high school reunion.

Residency records

Series consists of records relating to the various residencies and related programs that Wah has participated in during his career. These residencies have primarily been writer-in-residence programs at various academic and non-academic institutions, the most notable of which being his tenure as the Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate from 2011-2013. Records include correspondence, promotional materials, and administrative records.
