Academic Advice Centre

Sub-series consists of the Associate Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the Academic Advice Centre. For the whole of its existence (1971-1992), the Centre belonged to the VP Academic's reporting portfolio, though its direct reporting relationship shifted several times between the VP and the AVP. Activities documented in the correspondence include staffing, budget, policy development, and the reorganization and dissolution of the Centre in 1992. Records include correspondence, reports and statistics, student attrition and retention studies, advisors' manuals, and meeting agenda, minutes, and notes.

Animal Care Facility

Sub-series consists of the Associate Vice-President, Academic's correspondence with, related to, or copied from the Animal Care Facility during the period in which it reported to the AVP Academic (1990-1994). From 1994 on, the Animal Care Facility reported to the VP Research. Activities documented in the correspondence inlude management of the facilities, assessments by the Canadian Council on Animal Care, and development of policy, services and programs. Records include correspondence and reports.

Journalism and broadcasting records

Sub-series contains newspaper clippings, memos, photographs, correspondence, notebooks and contracts relating to Doris French Shackleton’s work as a radio commentator and freelance journalist. Sub-series also includes her letters to the editor and comments on the work of other journalists.

Non-fiction works records

Sub-series consists of research, correspondence, publicity, contracts, royalty statements, photographs and other material relating to Shackleton’s published works of non-fiction. Sub-series is arranged into the following sub-sub-series: “Ask No Quarter: A Biography of Agnes Macphail” (1956-1995); “High Button Bootstraps: Women’s Teachers’ Federation of Ontario” (1964-1975); “Tommy Douglas” (1943-1999); “Powertown: Democracy Discarded” (1973-1986); and “Ishbel and the Empire: A Biography of Lady Aberdeen” (1973-1998).

Fiction and poetry records

Sub-series consists of short story drafts, poems, notes, correspondence with publishers, and short story competition advertisements and submissions. Sub-series also consists of edits, background research, manuscript drafts and floppy disks relating to Shackleton’s unpublished novel, “The Jerusalem Wars.”

Writings by students

Sub-series contains works written and/or produced by students of Derek Beaulieu, from institutions such as Alberta College of Art & Design, Henry Wise Wood Senior High School and the Writers Guild of Alberta. These publications reflect Beaulieu’s teaching and his approach to independent publishing.

New Reader files

Series is comprised of records documenting the editorial and production of the "New Reader," a quarterly book review journal edited by Celia Duthie and published by Duthie Books from 1996-1999. One issue per year was titled the "Children’s Reader."

"My Father Took a Cake to France" notes, drafts and other records

Sub-series consists of records relating to the writing and publishing of Flood’s second collection of short stories, "My Father Took a Cake to France." Records include notes, drafts, correspondence with publishers and contracts. Sub-series also includes six publications in which Flood’s stories are printed: "Frictions: Stories By Women" (1989); "Descant" (1991); "Malahat" (1989); "Room Of One's Own" (1988); "Quarry" (1990); and "Books In Canada" (1990).

Sub-series also includes six publications in which Flood’s stories are printed: "Wascana Review" (1968); "Quarry" (1980); "Room Of One's Own" (1981); "Makara" (1976); "Baker's Dozen" (1984); and "Makara" (1978).

Biographical material

Sub-series consists of Iris Garland’s personal records of a biographical nature primarily documented through letters and family photographs, and in part through publicity materials featuring her contributions to dance at SFU and beyond, as well as her celebration of life. Records include photographs, correspondence, copies of clippings, and other materials.

Sub-series consists of records relating primarily to Iris Garland’s employment with SFU, but also to her work in the United States prior to moving to Canada. Records include correspondence, curricula vitae, and other materials.

Course materials

Sub-series consists of records documenting courses and workshops proposed, developed, or taught by Iris Garland individually or in partnership with others primarily at SFU, but also at other venues. Sub-series also includes material pertaining to the “University of the Air” project, a recorded educational series designed to explore the evolution of contemporary dance in the context of other contemporary art forms. Records include lecture notes, lesson plans, course syllabi and outlines, reading lists, exams, assignments, background literature, copies of articles, notes, proposals, and other materials.
