Louise Hutchinson

Records consist of five files of materials related to Louise Hutchinson’s term as the volunteer radio host for Vancouver Co-op Radio’s The Lesbian Show, between 1989 and 1991. Records include recordings on audio cassettes and audio reels of episodes of The Lesbian Show from when the show aired on the radio and related textual records. Most of the recordings were made of the radio show by Louise Hutchinson by home-recording the episodes of the show that aired on the radio.

File consists of a letter from Petten to friends and family written after Beverly Ann Holmwood’s death, a photocopied reproduction of Ann’s obituary, and medical records from the Victoria General Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital.

File consists of various records related to Petten’s claim with the British Columbia Workers Compensation Board, the board's initial decision to deny her compensation benefits, her complaint with the British Columbia Council of Human Rights, the board's awarding Petten of a pension, and the Greater Victoria Hospital Society's appeal of the board's decision. Records include correspondence and research materials.

File consists of photocopied reproductions of Holmwood’s medical records from the Vancouver General Hospital, as well as her certificate of death.

File consists of correspondence with the British Columbia Nurses’ Union regarding an article for their magazine, a copy of the article and Petten's editorial notes, and research materials relating to needlestick injuries and Survivor’s benefits for nurses’ partners.

File consists of various materials relating to the Victoria General Hospital’s appeal of the Worker’s Compensation Board’s 1992 decision, as well as Petten’s request to the Board for a partial commutation of spousal pension. Materials include correspondence with the Great Victoria Hospital Society, the Worker’s Compensation Board, legal counsel, and a Christmas letter written to Petten’s friends and family.

Out our way

Series consists of sound recordings of interviews undertaken by Michael Riordon for Out Our Way: Gay and Lesbian Life in the Country (Between the Lines, 1996). Interviews were undertaken across Canada. Textual records consist of a copy of Riordon’s log and notes about the tapes and interviews.

File consists of a page from the article “Fighting it out in Canadian courts” by Cynthia Peterson, and a photocopied reproduction of the April 1993 issue of the newsletter “Guelph Gay & Lesbian Equality,” which features a piece about Petten.

Michael Riordon

Records consist primarily of sound recordings of interviews undertaken by Michael Riordon and his partner for his two published books, Out Our Way: Gay and Lesbian Life in the Country (Between the Lines, 1996) and Eating Fire: Family Life on the Queer Side (Between the Lines, 2001). Materials include 282 audio cassettes and a copy of Riordon’s notes on the tapes for Out Our Way. The fonds is arranged into two series.
