Audio recordings

Series consists of audio cassettes, primarily of interviews with James Delgado or of interviews conducted by him. Some tapes relate to shipwreck dives and other projects he has worked on.

Lectures and education records

Series consists of records relating to James Delgado's speaking engagements, teaching activities, and other events he has attended. Records include correspondence, publicity records (including posters, brochures, and leaflets), itineraries, and conference proceedings, programs and papers.

Newspaper clippings

Series consists of records relating to newspaper articles written by James Delgado, featuring Delgado, or citing him or his work. These articles relate primarily to his early work on archaeological digs, his writing, expeditions he has participated in, and to shipwreck discoveries. Records include email printouts and newspaper clippings (both originals and photocopied reproductions).

Publicity records and reviews

Sub-series contains records relating to reviews and publicity records for various books written by James Delgado, as well as some records relating to Delgado's reviews of the work of others. Records include correspondence (primarily with publishers), newspaper clippings, web page printouts, newsletters, and journals.

Published articles

Sub-series contains copies of articles written by Delgado published in magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals and newsletters. Articles relate to topics such archaeology, shipwrecks, San Francisco history, and Delgado's work for the National Park Service.

Article drafts

Sub-series contains several unpublished drafts of articles written by Delgado relating to historical events such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the September 11, 2001 attack.

Correspondence

Sub-series contains correspondence relating to Delgado's writing activities, including the publication of books and articles. Also contains some correspondence relating to projects Delgado participated in, such as the Sutro Heights Park and USS Mississinewa projects.

Reports

Sub-series contains reports written or co-authored by Delgado, primarily for university assignments and for the National Park Service. Also included are assessments of historical sites and other surveys and reports focusing on historical, archaeological or shipwreck sites.

File consists of page proofs for the book “Silent killers: submarines and underwater warfare,” published by Osprey Publishing.

PhD dissertation, 2006

File consists of records relating to Delgado’s PhD dissertation, “Gold Rush Entrepôt: The Maritime Archaeology of the Rise of the Port of San Francisco.” Records include memorandum correspondence, comments, notes, and external report on Delgado’s dissertation, and copyright licenses from both Simon Fraser University and Library and Archives Canada.

To California by sea

File consists of records relating the book “To California by Sea: A Maritime History of the California Gold Rush,” published in 1990 by the University of South Carolina Press. Records include correspondence between Delgado and publisher and the publishing agreement.
