[W.W. Zibin's account of Peter P. Verigin]

This file contains manuscript of W. W. Zibin which includes eye-witness account of Peter P. Verigin's first visit to Canada in 1905, accompanied by his wife, two children and his mother Evodokia Gregievna, estranged wife of Peter V. Verigin. This manuscript was sent in 1952 to P. P. Legebekoff, editor of Iskra, and retyped, but never published it.

File consists of correspondence, notes, and poems relating to a request from Lifestyle Television to Ariel Magazine, asking to feature women’s poetry on their network for a program entitled “Writing on the wall.” Wah, on behalf of Ariel Magazine, selected poems from Roberta Rees, Claire Harris, Suzette Mayr, Nicole Markotic, and Sonia Smee.

This file consist of William (Vasily) T. Arishenkoff’s (Areshenkoff) records including outgoing and incoming correspondence, telegrams, forms, government publications, lists, reports, notebook, meeting resolutions, and protocols. Arishenkoff was a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Named Doukhobors of Canada in Saskatchewan from 1930s to 1950s. These files include Arishenkoff’s correspondence with Peter Reibin accompanied by other letters that Reibin refers to in his correspondence. Other sender, recipients, and co-authors of documents includes: Peter Abrosimoff (Abrosimov), V. Konkin, Gregori Konkin, P. Ribaikin, N. Popoff, V. A. Sukharov, V. Dumov, S. Kondratov, F. F. Salovev, P. W. Streliev, W. F. Cheveldeiff, P. Negreiv, P. Makaroff, the Named Doukhobor Society of Canada, Federation of Russian- Canadians, Humphrey Mitchell (Minister of Labor), National War Service Department. The subject of these records is the USCC response to the Canadian government requirement of men registration for the military conscription purposes in 1940. These documents refer to the Doukhobor communities in B.C. and Saskatchewan.

File consists of Betty Krawczyk’s court statements. The file includes handwritten statements, claims, and an affidavit in relation to the Supreme Court of British Columbia’s case between Her Majesty the Queen and Betty Krawczyk. The file also contains an excerpt from the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Martin’s Criminal Code.

This file consists of writings, appeals, record of conversations and speeches of J. J. Verigin, including his appeal to the Doukhobor community after the death of P. P. Verigin around [1939?]; a brief to William Bennett, Premier of BC prepared by the USCC leadership, including J. J. Verigin 1977; description of Verigin’s visit of Freedomites in Agassis in 1978; and his speech given at the Symposium in Castlegar in 1978. All documents are mimeographed in Russian.

This file consists of a circular letter, a letter from Evsia Ogloff to Nasti I. Ogloff, a short article titled: “Attention - visiting guests from the U.S.S.R.” and a draft copy of an untitled essay.

This file consists of writings, articles, letters, song, accounts by various authors including: I. Barisoff, Biriukoff, P. Sergieveski. These documents relate to the history and aspects of ideology of the Doukhobor community. Some of the documents include: Plan of activity of the Brotherhood by Biriukoff; an account of Relocation of Larion Kalmykov to Caucasus; an excerpt from publication with letters by [Peter V. Verigin?]; article: Trista let s…, (1912); writing: Doukhobor answer to the veterans resolution of Feb. 13th 1919: Toil and peaceful life; Doukhobors on the Crossroads. Also, it contains a text of Doukhobor song “Pesnia” printed on the original CCUB of Alberta Limited letterhead. This file contains a few original mimeographs, but most of the documents are photocopies. Most of the documents are in Russian, except for three in English.

This series consists of printed articles, writings, song texts, news articles reproductions, essays, letters, lists of publications, newspapers clippings all written by others and collected by Efanov. The subject matter of these records focuses on Doukhobor issues with the British Columbia government, Doukhobor’s protests, Doukhobor’s ways of life and beliefs and the Sons of Freedom. In some cases, authorship of the documents is unclear, but some of known authors include: I. Sysoev, J.E. Podovinikoff, Russell M. Verigin, Jack Sawatsky and Ray Herbert, G. Khadyin, I. Konkin, S. Sorokin, R. E. Morgan, W. Carson. Most documents are printed in English with a few exception in Russian.
