Residences and Housing

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of Residences and Housing and includes Dean's correspondence with the Residence Coordinator and campus residents regarding play areas for children, parking, food services, and housing repairs; student rental inquiries; housing and transportation surveys; fee and rental agreements; and research into off-campus student housing. Also documented are the minutes of the Board of Governors Special Housing Committee, the Residence Committee, the Tenants' Association, the Residence Planning and Policy Committee, and the President's Committee of University Residences. Records include correspondence and working papers, agendas and minutes, reports, and financial statements.

Residences

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of residences on campus and includes housing reports and student residence proposals; residence rental contracts; new residences planning documents; policies and procedures; and correspondence with students in residence, the City of Burnaby, the Tenant's Association, Residence Policy Committee, Residence Appeals Committee, Residence and Housing External Review Committee, and the Budget Committee. Also documented are issues related to residence staffing, living restrictions, campus parking, security and renovations, rental increases, student complaints, and publications produced by Residences about campus and off-campus housing. Records include correspondence and working papers, agendas and minutes, reports, financial statements, budgets, contracts, architectural plans and publications.

Research centres, groups and institutes

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the establishment and activities of research centres and institutes, including proposals for centres that were not successful. For the list of centres and institutes included in the correspondence, see Access Points below. Records include correspondence, brochures, meeting minutes, reports (including annual reports), proposals and applications, agreements, and budgets.

Research and external affairs records

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to TechBC research and external affairs activities. Activities, events and topics documented include TechBC's efforts to establish partnerships and links with various private corporations and the public sector, including various scientific and research institutes and councils, in order to develop TechBC's research and educational programs; participation in projects and other collaborative activities with these groups, including participation in forums and on boards; acquisition of funding to support the University's research activities; and the development of TechBC Corporation, an applied research company owned by TechBC and created to develop new technologies, incubate new companies, supply consulting services, and provide education to high tech companies. Records include reports, proposals, and business plans; correspondence; agreements; applications; presentations; booklets, brochures, and promotional material; annual reports; agendas; notes; and press releases.

Reports and studies

Sub-sub-series consists of papers and reports relating to the SFU PDP program collected by the Faculty of Education as a library and research reference resource. The papers include Director's reports, program proposals and evaluations, studies by faculty members on various topics relating to teacher education, interviews, and consultants in-service program reports (reviewing support provided to school associates supervising PDP students in the classroom-teaching component of the program).

Registration issues

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to registration issues, including admissions policy, telephone registration, and the activities and deliberations of the Enrolment Management Steering Committee (1992). Records include correspondence, meeting minutes, a survey relating to telephone registration, enrolments statistics, and reports. Note that prior to 1992 there was no separate category in the office file classification plan for "registration issues" and that this type of material was filed under "Registrar - general"; see sub-sub-series 1 (F-200-2-2-1).

Red notebook

Sub-sub-series consists of one red notebook with working notes on archival sources taken by Hugh Johnston during the preparation of Radical Campus. Pages are numbered 1 to 411. Academic departments documented include Physics, Languages, Mathematics, Computing Science, Psychology, Fine and Performing Arts, Chemistry, English, Communications, Library, Kinesiology, History, Philosophy, Economics, PSA, Biology, Criminology, Geography, Archaeology, and Education.

Reading and Study Services

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of Reading and Study Services and includes Dean's correspondence with Reading and Study Services staff and the university community; program schedules and evaluation reports; student assessment forms; budgets, and development of the Business and Professional Program. Documentation includes the reports "Outline of a Proposed Reading Instruction Program for Practicing Teachers" and "Development Plan for Classroom reading Instruction Course." Records include correspondence and working papers, reports, financial statements, and news releases.

Reading and Study Centre

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to the daily administration of the Reading and Study Centre and establishment of the Study Skills Service after the Centre was closed. Records include program and workshop planning; budget and fee proposals; advertising in SFU Week and The Peak; development of the ESL and evening English language programs; correspondence with the university community; staff contracts; and a copy of the document "Report of the External Review Committee on the Reading and Study Centre at SFU." Records include correspondence and working papers, reports, financial papers, contracts, and publications including poster sand brochures.

Racial Minorities Committee records

Sub-sub-series consists of records relating to Wah’s activities with the Racial Minorities Committee of the Writers’ Union of Canada. Records include publications of the committee, internal correspondence, research records, and administrative records.

Publications

Sub-sub-series consists primarily of photocopied material from the Sun, the Province, the Peak, the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) Bulletin, and other publications relating to the development of SFU. Subjects, events and activities documented include post-secondary education in the 1960s; student activism; Chancellor Gordon Shrum; the development and administration of SFU; post-secondary educational systems; faculty-administration relations; the Board of Governors; the CAUT Censure; the PSA affair; the Shell service station dispute; and the presidency of Kenneth Strand. Records include journal and magazine articles; newspaper clippings; reports and book excerpts.
