Series consists of textual records and other media, created and accumulated by Valerie Jerome. While the series was created by Valerie Jerome, the records mostly pertain to Harry’s athletic career and his prominence in the media, even after his death. However, the series does contain some genealogical records about the Howard/Jerome family, and an untitled, biographical manuscript about her family and Harry’s life. The series also contains records relating to Valerie’s political career with the British Columbia Green Party as well as her own athletic achievements.
USCC (The Union of Spiritual Community of Christ)

This series consists of various documents that were created by Union of Spiritual Community of Christ (USCC) and its members and that relate to the operations of the USCC and to the matters concerning the Doukhobor community from late 1908 until 1999, predominantly 1938-1960s. The USCC emerged in mid 1930s in efforts to unite the Doukhobor community under the name of the Society of Named Doukhobors which was guided Peter P. Verigin (Chistiakov). In 1938, the CCUB was dissolved due to bankruptcy. After the death of Peter P. Verigin in 1939, the leadership of the organization was continued by John J. Verigin, Peter’s grandson. The Society of Named Doukhobors change its name to the USCC in the early 1940s. The records are in Russian and/or English; some are printed and some are handwritten, some have accompanying transcriptions and/or translations; some are original documents and some are photocopies.
This series is divided in to four sub-series: 1: General Documents; 2: War related documents; 3: Financial records; 4: Ephemera and publications; 5: Event records.

This series consists of records relating to the USCC as organization and Eli A. Popoff’s role in the organization from personal perspective and as a member of the Executive Committee of the USCC. This series contains various records, including administrative, correspondence, conferences, committees, symposiums, conventions, cultural and events records.

U.S. Federal Communications Commission

Smythe served as Chief Economist for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission from 1943 to 1948. In this position, he conducted an economic analysis of the telegraph industry, investigated the issues surrounding the proposed merger of Western Union and Postal Telegraph, carried out studies in farm telephone service, and held public hearings on the post war reallocation of the radio spectrum.

U.S. Department of Labor (Wage and Hour Division)

Dallas Smythe was hired by the U.S. Department of Labor (Wage and Hour Division) in 1938. His role in this newly-created department was to help enforce laws regarding minimum wage rates and maximum hours of allowed work. He investigated cases in which the implementation of these laws was being avoided through various means. His investigations included occupational studies of the working conditions of newspaper boys, railway porters, life-insurance salesmen, telegraph messengers, cigar factory workers, railway maintenance workers, textile workers, lumber camp workers, and others.
Series consists of records arising from investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor (Wage and Hour Division). Series includes correspondence, studies, reports, reference material, written testimony, photographs, and other materials.

Series consists of records relating to the Unveiling Ceremony for Marker of Change, which was held on December 6, 1997. Includes speeches given at the ceremony, correspondence, and published materials. Also includes an audiotape of oral readings of the dedication in the seven dedication languages and a two-set videotape of the Unveiling Ceremony.

Responsibility for student services was reorganized several times over the period covered by this series, and the records include correspondence with the Dean of Student Affairs (1969-1971), the Vice-President, University Services (1971-1977), and the Director of Student Services (1977-1980). Activities and topics documented include the administrative organization of the portfolio; budget planning; liaison with the Simon Fraser Student Society; and development of student services programs including financial aid, scholarships, day care, residence and housing, health services, and employment and career services. Activities and events documented include Fellman's initial appointment; his salary, tenure and promotion reviews; grant and leave projects; participation in the Canadian Association of American Studies; the 1990 review of the editorial board of the Canadian Review of American Studies; and a proposal to establish a transitional college at SFU in the early 2000s. Series includes files relating to a well-publicized American plagiarism case, as well as various disputes at SFU including the 1979 AUCE strike, the 1997 harassment controversy, and the review of the search for the Wordsworth Chair in 2001.
