Financial records

This sub-series consists of documents of financial nature that include: correspondence, reports, statements, receipts, purchase orders, bills of sales, accounting books. These documents were created by the CCUB executive members in branch offices in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Washington State in USA. These sub-series also contains legal documentation that relate to the financial operations of the CCUB and its members. Most of the documents in this sub-series are original mimeographs, some with handwritten notes, as well as there is some handwritten documents. Most documents are in Russian and some are in English.

General and Miscellaneous

Subseries consists of 2 files: one is a general John Howard Society file containing general reports on the Society, memoranda and correspondence with those interested in the work of the Society; and the other contains information on prison libraries, especially the Society's work in advocating the role of prison libraries in the rehabilitation of offenders.

Provincial Apiarists' Association

Sub-series comprises copies of records of the meetings of the Provincial Apiarists' Association. The Association was established in 1952 as an organization of government apiary officials employed in provincial departments and ministries across Canada. It aimed to promote the scientific and practical efficiency of beekeeping, disseminate progressive ideas relating to apiculture, and secure cooperation among apiculturalists working in the country. The current status of the Association is not known. Records consist of proceedings of the Association's meetings in 1952 and 1958 and a 1959 report.

Documents

This sub-series consists of the various documents created by operations and activities of the CCUB and its executive members. Most of the documents relate to the legal aspects of the CCUB and Doukhobor community in terms of land holdings, loans, crops, population, attitude towards war, etc. Other documents relate to the administration and ideological structures of the CCUB and the community. The documents include: forms, reports, statements, lists, certificates, correspondences, protocols, congress proceedings, legal counsel correspondence, and notices. The following people and subgroups are mentioned: John Obed Smith, P. Kazakoff, N. Khabykin, I. Makhonin, I. Podovinnikoff, P.P. Verigin, W. M. Malakoff, W. Blackmore, P. V. Verigin, M. V. Cazakoff (Kazakoff), S. Vereshchagin, S. Reibin, James Merv, J. P. Trofimenkoff, G. Zbeetnoff, W. Perepolkin, J. Tarry, Sun Life Assurance Company, National Trust Company, Great-West Assurance Company, Named Doukhobor Society of Canada, Youth Union. There is considerable number of original printed forms, mimeographs and manuscript documents, but there are also many photocopies. Documents are both in English and Russian.

Photographs

This sub-series is comprised of two photographs relating to the Canadian Football League.

Correspondence of Jack Spicer

Sub-series consists of correspondence of poet Jack Spicer who was a close friend of Blaser. Records include handwritten and typed correspondence to and from Jack Spicer.

Immigration

This sub-series consists of records relating to the Doukhobor immigration and settlement in Canada as well as issues of citizenship.

Family papers

Subseries consists of miscellaneous records of various members of the Smythe family. Records of Dallas Smythe include a 1915 diary, military records, and records arising from a private business venture to establish a television station in the Champaign-Urbana area in Illinois. Subseries also includes employment and pension records of Smythe's father, J.W. Smyth, and issues of Alternatives, a newsletter edited by Dallas Smythe's wife Jennie.

Canadian Beekeepers' Council

Sub-series comprises records documenting the activities of the Canadian Beekeepers' Council. The Council was established in 1939 to study problems relating to the marketing of bee products and to promote education and standards. Records consist of correspondence, reports, a pamphlet, and a programme.

Financial records

This sub-series consists of records relating to financial operation of the USCC and the Doukhobor community in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The sub-series includes: accounting ledger, correspondence, bills, receipts, notes, statements and reports.

Education records

Sub-series consists of personal records made and/or received by Hari Sharma during his training at the Delhi School of Social Work and at Case Western Reserve University. Includes records he kept while conducting field work in India and the US. Sub-series includes notes, articles, publications, and notebooks.

The Tartan and SF View: issues

Sub-series consists of issues of the two student newspapers at SFU that merged to form The Peak. The Tartan published six issues from September 17 to October 4, 1965; one issue of SF View appeared on October 4, 1965. This sub-series includes four copies of each issue: two hard-copies stored in separate bound volumes and two on microfilm (positive and negative film).

Corrections - General

Subseries consists of files pertaining to corrections reform, including correspondence with and information about international organizations involved in the areas of prison reform and criminal rehabilitation, such as the Howard League for Penal Reform in Great Britain. Files also include information about various correctional institutions outside of B.C., and include articles, newspapers, clippings, bulletins, reports and correspondence.

Land related documents

This sub-series documents land disputes that existed between the Sons of Freedom, the CCBRD and the CCUB and the USCC. The documents include: open letters, memos, resolutions, appeals, statements, excerpts from publications, proceedings of the hearings, clippings, and articles. This sub-series includes printed, mimeographed and handwritten documents in Russian and/or English. Some are original documents and some are photocopies. In some cases, Russian handwritten document is supplied with a Russian and English version mimeograph.

Elizabeth Fry

Subseries consists of a single file on the Elizabeth Fry Society. File consists mainly of correspondence, but also includes miscellaneous materials, such as Annual Reports, lists of Society officers, newspaper clippings and statistical information about women received at Oakalla Prison.
